God forbid we show some modest distaste for a provenly fascist dictator whose toolkit includes extrajudicial executions with little concern for collateral damage…that would be WARLIKE!
And Putins just as bad.
Okay, well, that didn’t make any sense, so never mind.
Dunno about anybody else, but I’m pretty sure the only reason there is for anybody to pretend that we know what’s in Mueller’s report yet would be to defend the POtuS.
Nunes is right. We have to burn it to know what’s in it.
Can we forget about Individual-1 for a minute? (Personally I long to day when we can forget about him permanently.)
Didn’t the Barr “summary” of the Mueller report state that Russia did indeed interfere with our election? Shouldn’t McConnell and others be introducing legislation that says, “The interference with our election by the Russians was an attack on the bedrock of our democracy. Here is what we are going to do to help assure that this never happens again.”
Attorney General William Barr is planning to release a version of Robert Mueller’s probe into President Donald Trump in a matter of weeks, not months, according to a Justice Department official.
I fear that if you want the authentic Barr version Mueller Report experience, then you will need to take a teaspoon of Mueller wine, put it in a shotglass, fill the glass to the brim with water, and then bury the rest of the bottle in the garden. Maybe your ancestors can dig up the bottle and drink the rest when the full report becomes declassified for historical reasons!
Trump has already cut back staff and monies to the agency that polices election fraud. Can’t imagine why.
Trump could read Mueller’s report, and then tell everybody what’s in it. Because if I know two things about Trump they are that he’s a real good reader and that he doesn’t lie about things. He especially does not lie to the American people because he respects us so much.
Target demographic for resistance! bumper stickers
Right, which is why the NYT is reporting on the contents of the report with Barr as the source. The mainstream understands that the Russia CT is a hindrance to legitimate criticism of Trump. They have moved on.
I wish I knew what the mainstream understands. Seriously, I promise not to use that spectacular level of psychic power for evil.
Meh, like if it was not clear that you were wrong about me. As for your ‘I’m not a supporter, but I play one in my posts act’, you are telling us that if you look like a duck, swim like a duck, and walk like a duck you are a Mallard.
Saw this on twitter:
“Refusing to release a report that supposedly proves your innocence is the legal equivalent of saying “I have a girlfriend but she lives in Canada, you wouldn’t know her””
Yes. Yes. Yes!!
Rubbing salt in my wounds or attempting to coax me out of my self-imposed vow of silence? I will pompously assume the latter.
And you are right, of course. Whatever Barr puts out will not in any way resemble Mueller’s report. I may still drink the wine, but I won’t drink any of his Kool-aid.
There are some thoughts that have been rolling around in my head.
For those who have intimated otherwise, I never suffered under any fever dream that Mueller was some great defender of liberal ideals. What I believe in is the rule of law and the institutions that have respected this foundational rule of our nation for its entire history. And I still believe Mueller is a creature of the rule of law who did his utmost to uphold it.
My mistake was in hoping that Barr was the same sort of man. He is not. He is a very scary tool working in service to the American oligarchy. I expect him to systematically begin replacing US attorneys with jurisdictions over Trump-related investigations ASAP.
McConnell’s moves are another Merrick Garland maneuver. If we let him get away with it, we are tacitly allowing him to continue his ruin of our democratic republic.
I am scared for this country. This is not the time for purity tests or petty bickering. It’s time to keep our eyes on the prize, work as hard as we can for our values, get loud, activist, march, and VOTE.
Never forget the motto of the Trump Republicans: Projection is our game, and the end always justifies the means.
It sounded like you might be leaving the movie before the end…
The Mueller investigation, and surrounding Trump circus, has certainly been high political drama. Thinking of it from that perspective, what better dramatic crescendo point could there be than to have the Silent Man speak? We need to get that subpoena to Robert Mueller to have him testify before Congress, on live TV across the world. It would, at the very least, surely be the TV event of the decade - even more than that guy that parachuted from Space!
Until the unfiltered truth of what Mueller found comes out, Trump cannot be considered exonerated, of the obstruction of justice charge in particular.
Which one are you talking about here, Putin, Trump, or Duterte? (ETA: And those are just the living ones.)
Nah, not my style. However, I will probably offer less commentary in the way of predictions, preferring instead to say, “What Walken said,” since you mostly say exactly what I’m thinking – only with more style, wit and brevity.
Agreed. The pressure needs to be kept on all House of Representative members, until it becomes clear to Barr that he cannot continue to obstruct Mueller’s testimony. (He will try – and try and try and try.)
Meanwhile, Trump Republicans have already said how they intend to stay in power: They don’t expect to win the popular vote, only the Electoral College vote. We must stay vigilant in all states where the Electoral College votes can be manipulated and gerrymandered.
Any guesses how this case will be decided by SCOTUS? (Reuters)
Yeah. Kavanaugh.
That’s a good one; needs to be an attractive meme.
It will be very bad for Trump if Mueller speaks publicly. I am quite seriously worried about Mueller’s health.
Hope that apprehension is misplaced.
Yes to all of this.
There were a number of former Justice Department officials on tv and radio in past weeks, all saying some variation of ‘Bill Barr cares about the institutions of government, and that means he may well deal with the Mueller report fairly and with integrity.’ I suspect they were saying those things in the hopes that Barr would hear them and want to live up to that ideal.
Didn’t happen.
For any who haven’t seen it, Seth Abramson has a good run-down on the Barr memo’s various weasel words and sneaky tricks:
The actual Twitter feed version:
I get why Barr is playing coy, but why is literally everyone else letting him? Is there some legal issue involved in disclosure? How about moral? What’s stopping someone from just leaking the document?
