A Very Memorable MMP

OK, by popular demand, I guess… de-lurking some more.

Just don’t expect me to turn this into a habit.
'Cos I can’t sew for s*** and there isn’t enough white cloth here anyway…

**Haze ** (did I get the color right? The insecurity!) – wishing you luck on that last paper  Maybe you should check out the counseling program, though; these traumas can have delayed effects :frowning: Hope it doesn’t happen in your case – you seem to have bounced back nicely – but maybe you should give it a look-see anyway.
Oh, and *nice *picture!

Lissla Lissar – I think you should seriously complain to management about this; this is not a laughing matter. And – if you can pull it, I don’t know what your status at work is, etc… – possibly say you feel you can’t come in to work as long as Mr. MonoJerk is bringing in his viruses/germs (whichever they are). This is beyond stupid!

Everyone else – enjoy your “Humpday.” Mine was yesterday; we work Sun.-Thurs. here – so it’s almost my weekend. Combine that with being 7 hours ahead of the East Coast, and I get to point and laugh tomorrow (your) morning when I’m finished for the week and you still have two days ahead of you :stuck_out_tongue: And by the time my Sunday morning rolls around, the MMP will already be too big (and old) for your laughing back to register :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s a virus (Epstein-Barr) and it’s transmitted through saliva or blood transfusions (much rarer), that’s why it’s also called “the kissing illness”; it’s not easily transmitted. Only humans have it and there is no need for isolation of the patient. Patients should refrain from donating blood for six months after a bout of mono and follow hygienic practices that are part of basic “polite behavior” in Western countries (don’t cough on people, wash your hands often, don’t share glasses).

I realize that pregnancy is a scary time, but please can we inform ourselves before freaking out?

Special One, now that you’ve posted twice and obtained a nickname, may we welcome you? Cookies are over there points, donations of chocolate and beerverages are welcome by interested parties.

Morning all. I am up and caffeinated.

Haze, that looks like a good plan.

Herb, I’ll keep you in my prayers.

Special One, you don’t have to keep up to play here(Heck, most of us can’t keep up if we miss an hour or two. )

I’m at work, I need more caffeine. Today I hate people, doesn’t matter who they are (apart from the Cool Kids, you just have to love them, don’t you?) - people is largely getting on my nerves today.

Herbie, will be thinking of you, hope you get a good outcome from your investigations.

LiLi - perhaps today will be the day you don’t puke? Your silly co-worker should be earning a slap round the head with a wet fish…

Why isn’t it hometime yet?

Server of Canines (Is that right? I’m still learning…) – why you get up so late? It’s noon already! :stuck_out_tongue: (Hey, I’m in a GMT+3 time zone; so sue me)

**Nava **- I realize it’s a low-probability thing, but IIRC EBV is very scary during pregnancy, so we’re talking really high risk here; Li-Li shouldn’t have to be in the position to worry about it. All IMHO of course.

Also, isn’t the chocolate supposed to fo to FCM? What you trying to do, con me into feeding you instead? And I can’t spot the cookies either; which European country are they located in, anyway?

Everyone in the US who’s still trying to sleep – sorry for the ruckus. :frowning: try and get back to sleep, I’ll be quieter next time!

Coffee – had 3 already. I still wish I could assume Haze’s featured position. It’s not like I ever think straight, caffeine or no caffeine :o

Almost lunch time…

Uhm, the cookies are… depends, what kind of cookies do you like? I find German ones too heavy and French ones too sweet, but hey, I’m sure they’d find my Doradas too tough (they’re for dunking in milk and should not be eaten undunked except in case of emergency).

Ah, so that’s where Pratchett got the idea of Battle Bread from…

Sure, I’ll try the Doradas. Now where’s the milk, again? Huh, ***what ***goat? Oh… I’m supposed to go and milk the goat myself…? Ummm… OK, then

Special One (welcome, by the way!) gives good advice on the counseling Haze. Going in for at least one counseling session now wouldn’t hurt. You could gague from there if you need more. Just sayin’ cause I’m concerned.

Ok, up and caffienated here also. I’m about to go purtify, cause hi ho hi ho it’s off to interview I go. Did I mention this interview is at 8:00 A.M. and a forty minute drive to get there? Of course I need to give myself an hour cause one never knows what kind of farming apparatus may or may not be on the roads this time of year.

Herbs I’m keepin’ you in my thoughts and prayers. Here’s hopin’ it’s nuttin’ big.

Later Y’all!

Good on the university for actually calling you instead of waiting for you to melt down, Hank. As others have said, it probably wouldn’t hurt to go; you could at least find out if the service is any good and have that information in case you really need them later.

I like your plans for after papers. That was me on the bus to and from Cleveland on Friday; it felt wonderful.

Special One: It’s unfair that you get a weekend before we do! I’d like some chocolate too, please, just for that! :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry about the doctor stuff, tarra. Can you doctor’s office help you get stuff scheduled sooner?

Gotta clean up around here a bit (my brother might be coming to town today and the living room is hard to walk through - I’m in the midst of sorting a bunch of stuff out).

Everyone have a lovely Wednesday!

GT

tarra, just wanted to pipe in with some reassurance - my sister-in-law had a huge lump in her thyroid that required removing half of it - and it wasn’t cancerous in spite of the doctors warning her that it might well be. So don’t get too freaked out. Just get it taken care of as quickly as possible, and know that we are all sending good thoughts your way.

Haze, I was also mugged in much the same way (purse snatch, strap broke) many years ago and I recommend seeing a counselor at least once. I didn’t lose as much as you did, but I did come down with the shakes and nightmares about a month later. Delayed reaction, ya know. So look after yourself.

Good luck on the interview, Swampy!

Welcome, Special One! Don’t worry too much about keeping up with this crowd - it would be a full-time job. Just try not to step on the cats or dogs; they’re plentiful around here.

News of the day on the local front; the federal government has taken over the local mental hospital (West Central Georgai Regional Hospital) and ordered them to meet staffing guidelines within X number of days or close. This is about three weeks after a patient fatally beat another patient out there. Mr. SCL used to work there and I was so glad he quit. I was not surprised there was a murder, I was just surprised it was patient on patient instead of patient on staff. The place treats their staff like crap and is chronically under-staffed, so I don’t see them making the deadline. The state of Georgia will be relieved, they’ve wanted to close the place down for years. It is going to put a big strain on the sheriff’s dept. because mentally ill inmates will have to be transported to Milledgeville now.

Hope everyone has a great day!

{{{{Spicey}}}}, and prayers/good vibes.

Rosie, how you doin’ today? Is your new physical terrorist a dude or a dud?

I had the shortest call yet last night. While in EMT class, the rescue station was paged to form a search party for an overdue boater. The chief was sending me home for more appropriate clothing, because gym shorts, t-shirt, and sneakers won’t cut in in the swamp, when the call came in that he showed up at the boat ramp. Elapsed time: <10 minutes.

Swampy, :stuck_out_tongue: just on general principles…

gardentraveler, OK, you can have some chocolate – but I expect some on **my **desk Sunday morning when you’re still enjoying your weekend and I’m slaving away again!

'S’OK, dogs and cats I’m used to… just like home! (two dogs and a cat. In an apartment.) Truth to tell, it’s the goat I’m worried about… especially now that you seem to be implicitly denying its existence… :dubious: Ya trying to spring something on me?

Ugh.

Had major trouble sleeping last night. I went to bed just after midnight, but didn’t actually get to sleep ‘til after 2am. I couldn’t decide if I was hot or cold, and I was inexplicably itchy. Then once I finally fell asleep I had trouble staying asleep. At 4, I was awakened by a loud buzzing noise, which I had to get up to investigate. Turns out it was the cats’ water dish. (It’s an electric one that pumps the water over a red dome in a matter that seems to fascinate the critters.) I guess someone shed in the dish and blocked the pump’s intake. I’ll have to clean it again, but I unplugged it in the mean time.

Then I awoke at 6am for absolutely no reason. I just bolted awake thinking I was late for work; even in my bleary-eyed state I momentarily mistook the 6 on the clock for an 8. But no. Half an hour before my alarm was to go off. I went back to sleep for that half hour, though, even if it did feel like 5 minutes.

I may have to hit the sack earlier tonight to make up for it. But at least it’s hump day, and I’m caffeinated.

No, don’t worry - the goat doesn’t spring.

the squid however…

But you already met the goat when you joined the Dope, by now it’s used to you.

You forgot to mention two kids and a teenager when counting the menagerie, btw.

I’ve got a theory that one of the things that divide the world is weekends. So long as a lot of people’s rest day is another lot of people’s first work-day, we’ll be in trouble! Let’s just all move to a three-day weekend. Yes, you Chinese too :stuck_out_tongue:

Do you like black chocolate? It was on sale, I got six tablets of the generic brand at the supermarket at 1/3 price. Is the new harvest in or something?

Hi, hi! I’m awake and frisky today; I’ve been up since 5:45, watering the plants. It hasn’t rained since forever here, and I have all those baby flowers out there to tend to. The good news is CLARITIN SEEMS TO BE WORKING and allergy symptoms have all but disappeared! What a thrill it is when medicine actually works. I was on Allegra several years ago and it up and quit on me two weeks in. I don’t know how long the Claritin Effect will last, but I’m grateful for every non-sneezing moment.

I’m glad you had such a nice weekend in Chicago, taxi! My sister lives there and I kept expecting you to say you ran into her. :smack: :stuck_out_tongue:

Glad you’ve decided to join us Special Someone! I have an internet friend in Jerusalem, but I haven’t communicated much with her lately. So, it’s nice to have a new Israeli friend!

Hello to everyone else, too!

I think I got treated to the squid back then… anyway, I’m pretty sure the goat has been replaces, and the new one doesn’t know me.

I was only mentioning the relatively innocuous animals. I don’t mention the predators I keep at home until I’m sure the people I’m talking to know me well enough.

I’m a racist; I prefer my chocolate white, thankyouverymuch. But sure, I’ll help you with the dark chocolate, too. It’s all about the company you keep, not about the food you eat. Hmmm… reversing the verbs changes the meaning, doesn’t it…?

tarra, good vibes headed your way.

Feels weird that it’s Wedsnesday already. That’s what a four-day week does to ya.

We are finally getting more normal temps but are still bone dry. There is, however, something brewing down in the gulf. Tropical rain would be good.

Cookies? Did somebody say cookies? Mmmmm, I could go for a hot out of the oven homemade chocolate chip cookie right about now.

special one, lurking is for weinie butts so get in here and be a cool kid!

Off to get some work done.

Tupug

There is no goat. Understand? No goat. I’m sure you thought you saw a goat, but what you were looking at was Mabel. She is very sensitive about the horns and the chin hair. And the bleating. So please try and treat her just like any other human being. Right? Human. Just an ordinary, garden variety human. With horns. And an appetite for cotton.

Nothing to see here.

I’m not freaking out. I already know that if I catch it it won’t affect the kid, but I do have a depressed immune system due to aforesaid kid, and the idea of mono on top of barely being able to do anything and throwing up all the time is extremely annoying.

The chances of contagion are low, but it’s still possible to spread it through sneezing or coughing. He’s also been coming to work for three weeks with a fever. I have little respect for anyone who comes to work sick with a communicable disease, and fevers are Nature’s way of saying stay at home, dammit!
tara, prayers headed out.

BooFae, too late. I’ve already thrown up today. I’m hoping it’ll only be once- yesterday was horrible.

Today is my Day Off. Thank goodness.
