Way to go Emmers! I can’t wait to see pictures of the house with YOUR stuff in it.
This is so amazing, even for The Mighty Hunter Shopper, aka my husband. We have a furniture store we love, and go looking there every so often in case we see something we can’t live without. Mostly we need a kitchen table and haven’t found one we love, so stop frequently to check and see if THE table is there.
Anyway, we went by last Friday and they were having a big-big sale. They had a whole table of decor items marked way way down. We bought two lamps, once of which appeared to be broken. Hubs, the former electrician (I guess he still is an electrician, he just doesn’t do it for a living any more) proclaims he can fix it. Price: $25. Price before markdown: $189! AND IT WASN’T EVEN BROKEN. The rod that runs through the middle was just threaded incompletely, and he fixed it in the car without tools! :: Beams dreamily at husband ::
And, get this … another lamp, without a matching shade, was marked down to $99 … from $449.   Such a lamp would have to perform some serious tricks, or be gold-plated for me to spend that much. But it really is VERY lovely, so we bought that too. My dear hubby is beating his chest and doing a Tim Allen snort at this moment. We are slightly lamp-crazy, by the way. I can’t tell you how many we’ve bought since we married!
The internet died but it came back. YAY!
MMMMM YAY!!! So how many liquor/wine bottles did you decorate the kitchen with?
BioRosie sounds like a good pt workout. See, you’re gettin’ there just like we told ya! YAY!!!
MBG I suggest you go shoppin’ and by an outfit that matches Mika’s. That way y’all can spot each other real easy. There’s always such a simple solution to these things.
Supper tonight is leftovers from last night. Tomorrow I am bakin’ a small ham cause I want ham. There’ll be other stuff, I just don’t know what yet.
Ok, since the internet has resurrected, maybe I should go do some job hunt stuff.
Later Y’all!
I understand about the lamps, Ellen. We have a pile of nice lamps too because Papa Tigs has an old friend who, after retiring from running a bar, is having fun in his retirement running an antique lamp shop. He takes in old ones, fixes them up nice, and sells them for a whole lot more than he paid for them. Except to us; we get the Deep Discount Friends Bargain Price. Plus Papa Tigs managed to snag a fabulous brass floor lamp off freecycle a couple years ago. So between Nick and freecycle, we are fabulously fixed for lamps.
And speaking of, we got these two lamps from Nick that have a very Asian design around the base, but we needed new shades. So when we were in New Orleans, we were referred to this great lamp shop where the owner is like a lamp artist. I kid you not, he took one of the lamps sans shade, set it on a display table, walked all around it, meditated on it, waited for his muse to strike him, and then started going and pulling shades off the shelves until voilà! He found the perfect ones. And then we went through the same thing with the finials. We were just sorry we didn’t have more lamps that needed new shades!
Plus I’ve got this wonderful lamp inherited from my grandmother (the one who passed away a couple years ago at 102) – it was the very first thing she bought with her very first paycheck when she went to work for a local department store for a few months before marrying my grandpappy. She gave the lamp to her mother, and then eventually inherited it back. Awww! So I can exactly date when she purchased it, in 1916. I doubt it’s valuable, but I always think it would be a good thing to take to the Antiques Road show because the story is so charming. Plus it would be nice to know if it really is valuable so we might treat it with more reverence.
Anyway, enough about lamps. I’m avoiding working, can you tell?
And that’s fun that you personally know llamas, Ellen! I’ve not met any up close and personal, but I certainly do adore the heavenly soft yarn that they produce. So do you ever go back and visit them?
We went to a cute little lamp store for shades, too. They were featured in the May issue of Southern Living. Shannon Lamp. It was so fun! I saw TWO leg lamps! (From Christmas Story)
I haven’t been back to the llama farm, but I took my daughter when we shot video for the story, a portion of which was later used for several years in the show open, so that was fun. Another interesting tidbit about that story is the people that own the farm bought it from a family that had held the land for generations. So long, in fact, that it was orginally deeded to this family from the state of Virginia! (Kentucky became a state in, hm, 1795?) So, they were basically the second owners!
He was heard to exclaim, I KEEED!!!
Wimp. Be there.
Two leg lamps, Ellen? How fun is that?
And speaking of fun lamps, Nick used to have the single ugliest lamp in his shop that exists in the entire universe, I swear to every deity there is. It was affectionally known as the Whorehouse Lamp – the shade was red velvet, curvy girl-shaped, with all kinds of beads and fringes and assorted other crap hanging everywhere from it. It was a table lamp but stood about 4 feet tall; it was not only ugly, but really big. And he kept it by the front door of his shop where everyone could admire it coming and going. I never could bring myself to spend the $300 he wanted for it, but someone finally did. We still miss seeing the Whorehouse Lamp every time we go to visit Nick!
Papa Tigs just called; he managed to come up with a truly brilliant idea to do something really nice for a young soldier patient’s family. I don’t want to go into details at this point since it’s not officially finalized, but let’s just say that he feels like he really did something good at work today. We don’t often get to feel that level of good, so I’m really happy for him – and even happier for the patient’s family!
Will someone please make me get my butt in gear to get this stupid transcript finished??
After the reaction here and at work to my insurance premium, I’ve been doing some shopping on line and I think I may have gotten it down to just over $3K. WHEW! I don’t have to make the change till July, so I have time to shop some more, but I never imagined it would be that big a difference! Even with the 3 claims in the last 3 years… So thanks for sharing - I might have ignored it otherwise.
If you can get on with USAA, FCM, I highly recommend them. They have great prices and terrific service. The only time we’ve had an accident (Alice, driving my car, got hit by an uninsured idiot in a giant pickup truck) they took absolutely amazing care of us. No hassles whatsoever.
Hey. Blaugh.
Yay MMMMMMM!
Ya y Stapeled Chicken Airport fest, MBG!
Hey Meeks!!
Glad you found the lamp, Ellen
Thanks to all for all the good thoughts and prayers! And a special thanks to SCL for helping me to put things back in perspective. What happened was … I went looking on the Internet, and what I read fit my symptoms. I shouldn’t have looked it up, but couldn’t stop myself from doing so.
So, this morning I called and made the ultrasound appointment; it’s Monday June 18th. The earliest that endo could see me, though, was August 2nd! Well, that was too long a time for me to be sitting on pins and needles (and my doc hadn’t put an “urgent” on the referral!), so I’m going to another center to see the endo there on June 29th. Until then, I guess I’ll just have to hang on/hang in there. And in the mean time, take the new, upped thyroid med.
It takes about 6 weeks, though, for that stuff to work it’s way into your system, I think. I’m still feeling very sleepy at times, unfortunately.
Yay for BioRosie for doing the stair thing! A little bit at a time, I guess.
Thanks again, all, for the prayers and good thoughts.
Pfffft - I think he should go with the Mexican theme - wear a sombrero!!! And a serape! It’ll stand out, and there won’t be that messy live/dead chicken issue.
MamaTigs, I can’t get USAA - I’m not eligible - been out of service too long and it doesn’t look like gov’t employees are eligible. I did try esurance - I could get with them for around $3400 - over $2K savings! I need to do some investigating about them, tho - gotta find out about customer service and satisfaction and all that. It looks like Allstate would do well by us, too. So I have alternatives and time to shop. Yay.
Dinner was yummy - leftover chicken tits chopped up and cooked in chicken broth with a bunch of veggies. We’ve got fresh strawberries for later - grown just down the road! It was all I could do to keep from snacking on them while I was cleaning them.
Lessee, what else - welcome Special One!! As has been said, the nice thing about the MMP is that you don’t have to keep up or stay on target or really do anything except send chocolate love offerings to me - that’s the only rule and if you break it, well, ummmmm… I’ll pout - that’s what I’ll do!!! That’ll show you!
I was going to do some glaze application tonight, but I’m just too tired. It was really smoky around here last night - I think our neighbor in the back was burning stuff and with our windows open, it was unpleasant and difficult to fall asleep. At least it’s not smoky today. But it’s not Friday either. <sigh>
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm - goooooooooood strawberries!
That is all.
yum
Hi Mika!
Forgot to say earlier in the week that you’re sounding better, rosie! Keep up the good work.
Sounds like it would have been an icky situation, swampy. But, hey, every interview is good practice.
Good luck on the next interview, Jahdra.
Glad the special pregnancy diet is working today, LiLi.
Did I mention chocolate, Special One? I think you must be mistaken. ::shields chocolate stash from public view::
An airport fest! Yay! I think MBG should wear a sombrero, carry a chicken in one hand and a model of a school bus in the other, and be wearing a t-shirt with a picture of Cuervo (maybe the baby pic where he’s next to the Cuervo bottle) on it. I’m sure no one would notice.
Very tired. Not sure why. Need to stay awake till it’s approximately bed time. Otherwise I know I’ll be up in the middle of the night. Maybe I’ll go for a walk.
Back later.

Well, it looks like I’ll be doing my first fair with my beadwork on the 4th of July. My sister in law is getting a booth for us; she’s going to sell shirts and tote bags and sewn stuff and I’m going to sell beaded jewelry. I’m gonna be a beading fool between now and then to build up some inventory. Right now I’m working on a bunch of “little girl” bracelets - I can make them fast and sell them cheap. I’m also doing beaded bookmarks as well as bracelets, necklaces and earrings for adults. Should prove interesting.
Just in case you’re still goofin’ off…
BioTigs, young lady, you march right in there and get your work done, NOW! You can stomp that foot all you want but you still have to do it or there will be no new yarn for a month! Do you hear me young lady? Now GET BUSY! Your face is gonna freeze like that, just you wait and see!
I am sleepy. Think it’ll be beddy bye time soon. It’s also really, really, really, really, really, smokey outside. I mean it’s like walk outside and you smell like smoke. ICK! We need rain! Where’s the rain???
I’m telling you, it’s a good thing I generally dress myself without advice from the Peanut Gallery…
rosie, good on ya for the improving!!! Don’t trip over Smokey, watch your step!
We just want you to make an impression, MBG! Really, we’re only thinking of you.
I’m sleepy too, swampy. No smoke (or rain) here, but there were people putting a new roof on the house two doors down from me. It was loud.
Off to beddie bye.

Well, I have a feeling it is Gwen’s last night. She has moved from the basket in the office where she has been for the last few weeks to up under the couch. She is very cold. I tried to hold her, but she didn’t want to be held.
This hurts so fucking bad.
