Here’s the scenario. You post something to a thread and then lose interest, or come back after a weekend, whatever. Point is that there are now 4 pages to the thread after your post and you’re not interested in reading them all. But it’s possible that someone in those four pages has addressed your post, and you’d be interested in rerading or responding to that specific post, if it exists.
Is there a way to search or otherwise know whether this has happened? Searching on one’s own username does not seem to pull up instances of “Originally Posted by Username”.
I don’t like the threaded mode myself, so I just click on my own profile and search for threads I’ve posted to. If one of them has been active since I last posted, I’ll bring it up and use the Control-F function that Expano Mapcase mentions. It’s a bit tedious if there’s several pages on the thread, but it’s pretty quick.
You can also use the “Search This Thread” tool - just look for your username or part of it. This will search all pages of a multipage thread and save time hitting CTRL-F a lot.
Except “Search this thread” doesn’t actually return usernames unless they are part of the body text in the actual post. Also, the threaded mode will not work if the person manually typed in your name inside the quote tags, instead of hitting the “quote” button. So, CTRL-F is usually the better option.
It doesn’t have to - it returns a list of posts containing your username, which is fine. And since your username becomes a body element when you are quoted, this works like gangbusters.
It’s because your name was mentioned outside of a quote tag, in post #9. If you’d only been quoted, your search would not have found anything. If you search on any part of “Exapno Mapcase”, you’ll find that it returns post #7 where the name was mentioned, but it does not return post #6 where the poster was quoted.
