I’m afraid I know Baltimore not at all (except I remember there was this little Italian Bistro I liked somewhere around the Aquarium).
However, what I really wanted to ask was if Lucretia, and/or Bluesman know if they might be able to make it yet. I’ve been monitoring Bluesman’s “Support the soldiers” thread, and I figure I can either snail-mail something, or hand deliver it over a few beers. Perhaps some other people would like to get in on it as well. If not, going to the post office is no prob, but it would save me a couple of bucks. Plus I’m not sure how long it would take to get from here to there in any case, it might be quicker to just bring along a box and deliver it in person.
Tomorrow I was going to go through the suggestions for meeting places and call and make a reservation. I figured it’d be easier that way because it’d give more people time to join our group and thus not have to make too many last minute changes to the reservation, although I think I’m just gonna add two or three to the total number of people who say they’re gonna be there anyways.
I think I can make it on the 28th, especially if we do the Dopefest at John Stevens. That sounds like fun! This is cool. I’ve been waiting for something close by and familiar.
Dave, I just realized that Maryland’s going to be playing that night at ten. Although I hope that John Stephen’s has a TV so I can get updates do you know if it is one of those places that goes nuts over sporting events? I’ve never been there so I figured I’d ask someone in the know.
Good Og keep me the hell away from any Maryland Terrapins games while my husband is watching them. He despises them (Towson Alum, you see) and I hate listening to the groaning and yelling.
There are TVs in the bar, but there is dining in the back (including a patio, although it prolly won’t be quite that warm yet,) so people can watch the game or stay at the table. John Stephens isn’t a sports themed bar, so I don’t think it’ll be any worse/better than other place in Fells Point that night.
The reservation has been made at John Stevens for a party of thirteen at 8:00PM on Friday, March 28 in the name of Cecil Adams. Phone number and logo of the place can be found here to help you locate it.
Also, I enquired about the general health of the staff and was assured that they were all in good shape. But keep your fingers crossed.
Current list of dopers likely to attend, in reverse alphabetical order: Weirddave
TeleTronOne
Saxface
Panache
Lucretia
GingerOfTheNorth
Creaky
Bluesman
Bibliocat
Asylum’s GF
Asylum
I’m pretty sure that there were a few other dopers in Baltimore who were interested in attending and it’s not too late to alter the reservations, so if your name is not on the list feel free to pipe up and I’ll make the necessary changes.
I was planning on skipping this one, and waiting for one more down my way (DC/No.VA/Annapolis). But if Lucretia and Bluesman will be there to pick up stuff to deliver to the troops, I may go after all. Lemme check with the better half.
I will probably not be coming. I have a Work Thing this Friday night that I forgot about, and won’t be done till at least 8:30, and then we usually go out after that as a group.
Sorry. Please let me know about the next one.
Would it be possible for me to bring along my girlfriend Ellen that night? She’s not a Doper, but she’s really smart and witty and a published writer and an artist and lots of fun and stuff.
Sure, bring whoever you like. My GF’s not a doper either, but the more the merrier. Plus, since Bibliocat dropped out it keeps the numbers at the same level.
Bumping this as a reminder for tonight and to see if we can snag some more people into going. We still have a little room on our reservation so anyone who wants to jump in at the last minute is more than welcome.
