It’s time to start planning Round II of the Alcohol and Appetizers Appreciation Society and this month we’re headed to The Greatest City in the World.
The day and time for the meeting will be Friday, March 28 at 8PM. I gave some thoughts on where to meet but everything that I came up with is either in the Disney section of Baltimore or too small to handle a party of ten like we had last time, so I’m open to suggestions from any of you Baltimore natives.
And again, this is all up for debate (except for the city), so if the day or time doesn’t work for you suggest something else and if the majority of dopers like it better than that’s what we’ll switch to.
Baltimore was chosen as the meeting area this month because at the end of the last get together a vote was taken and The City That Reads was the hands down winner. Next month we’re probably looking at NoVa, but all you NoVa dopers feel free to make the trek this month, some of us are already definitely in to show up in your area.
I’ll bet I can make it up to Baltimore for this, but how about something a little different this time? There’s a Tapas bar in Shirlington that I went to recently that I sort of liked (which might actually be an OK place for the NoVa version - but may be to small). They had flamenco dancers when I was there, it was interesting. But how about something more along those lines? But of course, when it comes right down to it, a friendly atmosphere, decent selection of beer and decent food are what’s really important.
Well, there’s Fells Point, lots of places there, I’d recommend John Stephens. If that dosen’t work I’ll think of somewhere else, but why don’t you try them first?
I’ll be in Baltimore sometime relatively soon to visit my family (and to help welcome my new nephew to the world!), but it won’t be as early as late March. Hope you all have fun; sorry I’ll miss it!
I don’t think ‘weird’ is the right word, I think something like “AAAARRRGGGHHH!!! WTF WERE YOU THINKING?” is more appropriate. Compared to that, the Flamenco dancers are pretty tame
That may have come out wrong. Damn my self-depreciating humor! I of course, would be honored to have a get-together set up when I’m in town, and I’m looking forward to seeing those of you I’ve met before again, and to meeting all sorts of new people!
I won’t be down there, but as an old Baltimore hand allow me to recommend the Mount Vernon Stable on N. Charles St – been there forever, can handle large crowds, good appetizers and din-din for those who want it.
If you want to spend a little more for greater variety and some fun, GAMPY’s is right across the street. They can handle a crowd your size, but you may want to call in advance.
Finally, up the block a bit in the Belvedere Hotel is the Owl Bar, among the most visually interesting places in town.
Thanks for the ideas manny, but I’m gonna veto this one, I went there and was unimpressed by the food, decor, and clientele. The club on the top floor of the hotel was very cool however.
Oh, and the Harbor and environs is indeed the Disney section of Baltimore.
Nobody has to buy anything for anyone, unless it’s for their favourite Canadian chick. Please come anyway. I’m not drinking, so I’m a pretty cheap date.
