Things are as outstanding as relative to the situation they can be. Got to go back and see mom in the NeuroICU, and she was doing pretty well, aside from still being very groggy. She immediately reached out for Fresno guy’s hand, and responded well to everyone. She asked first if it was over, and she seemed really relieved.
Anyway, the Primary neurosurgeon and his team went through on rounds, and gave her a full exam, and so far, no ill effects, and she had memory of them doing the testing. The ENT/ Neuro specialist did the same, with the same results. She is kicking ass!!
The full OR team at U of Cincinnati hospital and the team of surgeons could not have been more friendly and caring, and we are thrilled and lucky to have them on our side. It has been a long and amazing day, with great family and friends stopping by, and an outpouring of thoughts and prayers coming in from all corners, all of which were felt and appreciated. A few days ago, she mentioned to Fresno Guy that she could really feel the thoughts and prayers coming in, and that they filled their house with hope, amazing.
Last thing before I collapse into bed: Although she probably has not been on one since 1971, mom mentioned that she thinks she won’t be skateboarding anymore.
okay, sorry about the delay in updates, but visiting hours are kind of screwy in the Neuro ICU, so we did not get to see her until after 4 today. She was doing really well, aside from drifting in and out of sleep due to morphine for pain and benadryl to prevent any reaction to the contrast dye that she seems to have an allergy to. She remembered parts of conversations and full dreams from last night, and has aced all neuro tests. The CT contrast scan indicated that the bypass was working as it was designed, and she has now been moved from the ICU to a regular step down room. If things stay the course, she will be able to come home on Sunday.
My family and I appreciate the support tremendously, and look forward to posting more to celebrate soon.
due to the extreme quickness of her recovery, zenmonger was able to come home this afternoon. I brought the little Strikers over to the house to visit, and although they were a bit creeped out by the stitches, they were happy to see her, and she likewise. She is still pretty tired, but happy to be home in her own bed.
She is still having occasional double vision due to swelling, but that should clear out shortly. First follow up is Tuesday, and she should be getting the second surgery (coil and stent) within the next 2 weeks. Fresno Guy’s mom is flying in from Cali. to stay with them for about 2 weeks and help out. It will be her first time meeting the extended family… should be interesting.
I understand the stress and the worry. But actually, it will all turn out okay. Really. The surgeons and the medical team will do their job, and do it well. Mom will take a while to recover but then she’ll be back to normal. She will get through this, and you will get through this, and so will all of your family.
Minor setback this morning- mom had to go to the ER due to some minor facial paralysis. The initial thinking is that this is being caused by swelling, but they are going to do a CT scan to confirm nothing else is happening. When we visited her last night, she was sounding strong, but was VERY swollen, so I can see where that could happen.
I knocked my arm on a banister going up the stairs one evening and woke up the next morning with my arm completely paralyzed. It stayed that way for some days. So it definitely can happen - that bruising can cause paralysis.
