About my mom

That’s right, and today’s the day…all together now!

::zooming some healing vibes to Striker’s mom::

It is the day and as a matter of fact, the hour. She went into surgery at about 9:30 this morning. Funny story though. The doc did return from Italy safely, and the surgery originally re-scheduled for 10 today was moved to 7:30. Unfortunately, mom never got the message, and showed up at 7:30 for her preop to a confused OR staff wondering if she had chickened out at the last minute.

I got to talk to her before she went back, and she was in really great spirits. Half of the surgical waiting room is our family, so she has a big team ready for when she wakes up this evening. Keep the thoughts and prayers rolling in please! I will be in and out, the hospital wifi is a bit slooooooowww.

Thoughts and prayers from NoVA heading your way Zen and Theo! Peace and love to you and yours…

Thinking of all of you now and we’ll be watching for updates.

I know exactly how you feel right now because fifteen years ago I was in the same situation. My beloved mother had a brain aneurysm the size of a lemon in her internal carotid artery. She had the surgery (13 hours long) and then went to a rehab hospital to learn to walk again. Her surgery was on April 21st but by July 7th she was back at work full-time.

There were some side effects like vasospasms (they are scary but normal) and she suffered from incessant and inappropriate laughter for a few months but she’s totally fine now. And your mom will be, too. Best of luck to all of you - you’re in my thoughts.

You have my best and most fervent wishes that everything goes well.

The pollen must be really bad today because I am all teary-eyed and everything.

This reminds me that I should call my maternal-unit this evening.

Fingers crossed and positive thoughts and wishes headed your way!

Hope all is going well - we’re all thinking of you and your mom!

Okay- update from hour 7- the 2 hour updates from the surgeon from the OR have all been positive, and things are progressing well. The surgeon who assisted with most of the skull dissection came out about 2 hours ago, and was extremely positive. The most recent call from about 2o minutes ago has the estimated completion set for 90-120 minutes. This is generally the most nerve-wracking though, as this is when all of the plumbing work for the bypass is being done. Most of the family has stuck around since this morning, and we have had other various family members coming and going. Mom actually worked in the same hospital the surgery is being performed in for a long time, and several co-workers have come by to check on her and the family.

Funny you should mention that Saxface, another patient being operated on by the same surgeon was being treated for a blocked carotid, and just got called to the PACU.

Thank you all, hopefully the good news will keep on coming!

Thanks for the good news, keep it coming.

Yay for the good news! Hang in there and take care of yourself.

Well?
Seriously, warm healing thoughts are being sent your mom’s way.
Hang in there Mom!

Main neurosurgeon just came out, and they are in the process of reconstruction and closing. From all indications, the surgery went very well, the bypass is working as it should, all very good signs. Apparently, she is a bit of a celebrity in the local neurosurgery community, so she is getting a bit of extra attention. Anyway, they will not able to get conclusive information on any side effects until she comes out of anastesthia (sp, sorry), but all things good so far, thank you all!!

Yay!! I hope the news continues to be good!

Thanks for the update! So glad things are going well so far.

okay, the updating board in the surgical waiting room is displaying the “band-aid” symbol, meaning surgery is complete. She will be moved shortly to the PACU unit for anastesia recovery and step out, and hopefully wake up later. we plan on giving her hell for sleeping all day.

Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

Awesome news that things seem to be going as well as they can, and sending healing thoughts your way.
