Oh, and as far as openly gay people showing up on camera, Debra Chasnoff thanked her partner when she won for documentary short subject back in 1991 and Howard Ashman’s surviving partner accepted his award for best song the same year, mentioning that they shared “a love and a life.” Then there was that thoroughlt confusing Jodie Foster acceptance speech for Silence of the Lambs where she thanks “the circle” and “the trusted ones.” I still don’t know what that was all about.
