Academy Awards 2024 - 96th ceremony - Watch Along Thread

Quoted for truth.

Could you feel their kenergy?

They definitely have a very Kenergetic Group Text going.

The Eilish tune was kind of an add-on to Barbie, but the Academy voters have learned to go with what their kids are listening to…

So how did they get the audience to hold their applause until the end of the in memoriam segment? Usually it’s a popularity contest in that some get enthusiastic applause, others get tepid applause and some get none.

I was shocked at the “In Memorium” part. There were so many I have enjoyed and had no idea they were gone (I don’t pay close attention that stuff, obviously, but still…that was a sad surprise to me).

The audience is mostly actors. They were told to not applaud until they got their cue…

I think TCM did a better job (more focus on ethos honored)

Hoping for Emma!!

Please shit, no, Bradley Cooper.

There’s a little thing called the Death Pool… you’ll never miss another one again.

I thought it was a good choice for song when it was just the strings. I was pleasantly surprised to see the Bocellis. Matteo has his father’s pipes.

According to the odds site. Cillian Murphy had 92% implied odds to win.

Oppenheimer is 98%+ implied odds for Director and Picture. The only horse race left is Actress.

Scorsese looks 206 years old. But I’m glad Nolan won. Love his films.

I figure Emma Stone will win. What do odds sites have it at?

Pulling for Sandra Hueller or Lily Gladstone.

I’m rooting for Annette Bening (for Nyad) but I’d be fine with Stone or Sandra Huller. The prevailing buzz is that it goes to Lily Gladstone. My bias here is that I’ve seen all the movies the nominees are in except Killers of the Flower Moon, so I have no basis for comparing Gladstone with the others – but damn, those three actresses were all fantastic in their roles!

I have not seen all the films but ISTM best director could have reasonably gone to anyone. Kinda wished it went to someone else other than Nolan. Not that he didn’t deserve it, but that others did too and Oppenheimer has done well as it is.

That said, Nolan deserved it too.

I’m still going with my original pick of Lily Gladstone.

He does, but not for Oppenheimer in my opinion. For Inception or maybe The Dark Knight.

I think it’s unusual for Best Director and Best Picture to go to different movies, so I think this pretty much clinches Oppenheimer as Best Picture.

Actually, more Lily Gladstone. I hate seeing Killers of the Flower Moon get shut out.

I wonder why the award for best actress is being given so late. Doesn’t it usually happen before best director?
