Accessing straightdope boards using Firefox 84

I updated to Firefox 84.x.y.z a few days ago and instantly lost access to the Dope. It appears as if page requests to Discourse are being made and data is being transmitted but things eventually time out. Nothing appears.

I tried a few things and am now using MS Edge which is working fine.

Got any Firefox ideas?

I like Firefox but had to stop using it for this board. It clearly does not like Discourse, or Discourse clearly does not like Firefox, which is a shame because I like the Fox when I’m not using Google-related products.

I use ‘Waterfox Classic’ (a Firefox fork) because I didn’t like the latest major Firefox revision and didn’t want to ditch my plugins. I get a few ‘your browser is outdated’ warnings on some sites but most work flawlessly, the SDMB included.

Aside from the icon being butt-ugly it’s pretty much all win.

To add a data point, I’m currently on 84.0.1 and am having no issues. Have you tried disabling all your extensions and see if that makes a difference?

A heads-up regarding Waterfox.

I’d been using Waterfox for several years. A week or so ago they released a new version (I don’t know the number). I updated to the new version and lost all my bookmarks and saved login passwords, then the new Waterfox wouldn’t let me access the browser unless I provided an email address to log-in.

I immediately removed Waterfox from my computer – haven’t looked around for any discussion of the new policy. Waterfox is a one man operation – why he decided to insist on logging in to a browser I have no idea. I’ve switched to Brave.

To be clear, this was for the new version of Waterfox, not the Classic version.

AlsoNamedBort: Disabled exensions, etc. Uninstalled and reinstalled. No good. I might try Firefox again a a few months but for now Edge will take over.
