Aceplace57, what the fuck is wrong with you?

The fact that he is constantly starting threads based on whatever is the Daily News or CNN is rather annoying too.

The Equalizer thread: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=831931

That 1st post is a fantastic example of his writing, which often leaves me paralyzed trying to figure out whether it is a really poor attempt at haiku or some deranged aping of Hemingway:

I doubt that he’s heard of Hemingway or haiku.

I’m surprised that post consisted entirely of complete sentences; Acey loves his fragments. Likes to drop the subject from sentences. Sometimes verb too. Annoying.

It sure was nice of him to tell us what he was watching, and that we should be waiting with bated breath for his review. That’s what this board needs more of - PSAs letting us know that a 3 year old movie is coming to commercial TV.

Gender reassignment surgery is comparable to getting a nose job or butt implants.

Jesus Christ.

And that stupidity was typical Acey backpedaling after he got some pushback on his earlier “men can’t help themselves” stupidity:

Well, now we know what Acey would do in that situation.

Sexual assault is a problem in the military (especially men raping other men), but the idea that 50 random soldiers would of course just gang-rape one of their own teammates because they are feeling horny is fucking twisted. Leaving aside the question of basic humanity, in the context of the military, loyalty and group cohesion is everything. I don’t think your average soldier, tasked with preserving the lives of his teammates, would risk destroying that critical bond in order to avoid blue-balls. It is a truly grotesque way to look at humanity.

And right there, you have summed up what I think about our thread topic.

Some Acey updates:

Remember the naked girl on the Blind Faith album cover? She’s an old lady now! Yuk!

Why can’t I buy an STD test at Walmart? Oh, I forgot, I don’t need one.

Usain Bolt lost a race! Obviously booze is involved.

Holy crap, sometimes I see interracial couples! In public! But I totally ignore them.

I really, really do have a wife and two daughters. Here’s a cute anecdote to prove it. [Still no mention of the long-forgotten son.]

Whether the sentences are complete is not really the issue, because incomplete sentences can (and usually do) imply their missing parts (which is what we do with parallel structures, to good effect).

Rather, the issue here is a total lack of coordination or subordination of ideas, which would form the coherence of something worth reading. Instead, it’s just a gratuitous list of statements, with no larger point.

Acey on Charlottesville: it’s all the left’s fault.

Wow, just . . . wow. I would not previously have pegged him as a neo-nazi apologist. I guess I should have known better, though.

Yeah, he argued in a similar vein in another thread about Dixie:

That is hard to believe. That is just plain old Too Angry To Think Straight.

I value muh Stars n Bars lawn flamingo, but some left leaning loonies done tooked it.
What? You said I may laugh now.

Dude is off his fuckin rocker. If you confront racism today, then you have provoked the violent response. Neither he nor Trump can ever blame a racist for the racist’s behavior. What an asshole.

It’s a laugh that he said he knows all about Reconstruction first hand. What is he, the 2000 year old man?

The South recovered its pride during the tumult of the civil rights movement? Say what now?

I’d like to think he meant that the south should be ashamed of its history of racism in the hundred years after the Civil War. And that its pride was restored when the civil rights movement began fighting that racism. But that seems like a poor fit given the context.

His argument seems to be we should just ignore Nazis and they’ll go away on their own.

How bad could things get? What are the odds the Nazis will take over a country, launch a global war, and kill twelve million people?

Okay, sure, but what are the odds they’ll do it twice? The only reason they got in power last time was because a senile old man who sympathized with them allowed the Nazis into his administration and then lost control of them.

He had plenty to say about that topic in this 2015 thread, which has too many Acey gems to quote; his contributions start at post #33. I’ll summarize his points: (a) we should stop talking about slavery so much and focus on the future instead; (b) white southerners were the real victims—they suffered horribly during Reconstruction; and (c) slaves actually had a pretty cushy life.
