Act-Scene-Page numbering for a play in Microsoft Word 2011

Does anyone have experience with setting up page numbering for a play in Word? I’m retyping a script from the 70s for a playwright friend of mine, and he’d like for the page numbers to be formatted such that it starts with I-i-1, I-i-2, and so on until Act I, Scene ii, which would be I-ii-1, and so forth. I can’t figure out an easy way to do this, even with setting up section breaks in-between scenes. Alternatively, I would be fine with adding the page numbers manually if I could make the headers unique on each page, but I can’t figure out how to do that either. I’ve googled all the keywords I could think of for play formatting to no avail. Thanks for any assistance.

I dont think they use Word at all for this purpose. There seems to be an alternate script writing software.

Insert a footer
center or right align the text or leave it left aligned as you wish
in the footer type I-i-
insert a page number – choose at the current location and choose plain
Close the footer

When you finish scene i, put in a section break
Insert a new footer
make sure it is not linked to continue from the previous
when putting in the page number, choose to make it not continue from the previous section
in the footer type I-ii-
insert a page number – choose at the current location and choose plain
Close the footer
repeat

You can automate this by choosing the multilevel list button, I believe, but it’s probably not worth it for a one shot.

Thanks, that worked.
