The obvious start point is the place he abandoned his car. Or is there evidence he had access to or stole another one?
Maybe one of the voices in his head will make the call.
If they find him it will be interesting to see what kinds of drugs are in his system. Maybe the magic mushrooms on the street are laced with something,
Right. He must have been on drugs. He wasn’t just a violent gun nut with a mental problem. Good call.
Nothing I said was related to guns which by the way the the mod has expressly asked us NOT to talk about.
in some areas people don’t lock cars and homes. it would be very easy to gain access to a different vehicle.
True but by the time he abandon the car the word was already out. A likely scenario is that he forced someone to give him their car.
That person either would have reported it or is dead and there would be a body.
Or they became a chauffeur. They were definitely searching specific areas last night and this morning so they might have some leads to work with.
CNN website has a quote
"The governor said Maine is preparing state resources, including grief counselors and other mental health services, to help people affected by the shooting rampage.
“We need to help our communities heal,” Mills said.
Residents who need someone to talk to can call or text the phone number 988 for free and confidential counseling, the governor said."
I thought 988 was a suicide crisis hotline; is it more than that? Quite understandably if someone close to you was violently murdered you would be grief stricken & might benefit from talking to a trained professional but that doesn’t necessarily mean you are suicidal.
From the 988 website:
We can all help prevent suicide. The 988 Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals in the United States.
My sister and BiL lived in Presque Isle (about 6 miles from Caribou) for about five years. My sister finally talked him into moving back to California (he grew up in Waterville ME), but, yeah, the towns are small and there’s a lot of open land/forests between them.
I thnk it’s wonderful that we now have one # anywhere in the country to call to talk to someone if you’re feeling suicidal. No fumbling thru ‘where am I & who handles despondent people where I am?’ in one’s moment of need.
I looked them up before I posted. their first line. “We can all help prevent suicide.” makes the words ‘distress’ & ‘crisis’ in the following sentence that they are related to suicide, not for ‘I witnessed something horrible’ or ‘my loved one is dead’. If they do the latter, they’ve done a horrible job marketing themselves as I never knew they did that & still don’t from looking at their website.
Not trying to hijack a breaking news thread
Or as you say, they have trained professionals who deal with emotional issues.
They’re back circling South of Lisbon.
The latest on Twitter is they think he took off in a 15’ boat at the ramp in Lisbon. I do not like that one bit. A fifteen foot boat is not exactly an ocean going vessel and the Androscoggin flows from Lisbon right past my sister’s house toward the bay.
When he went on foot it made sense to cross a river so he couldn’t be tracked by dogs.
The news showed video of the shooter playing in a cornhole tournament at the bar he shot up.
But as I understand it, he had help from sympathizers. I doubt this Card guy will have that kind of assistance.
On the other hand, there’s probably lots of summer seasonal cottages and cabins he could break into for shelter and supplies.
