Active Shooter incident in Lewiston, Maine 10/25/2023 (found dead, presumed suicide)

They are at his house doing some “due diligence”

I can’t believe he’s in there.

Probably looking for evidence of premeditation, grabbing all his electronics to rummage through his search history, etc.

Actually, trained dogs can track through water; in fact there are cadaver dogs that can locate bodies submerged in rivers and ponds

They seem intent on the Lisbon area. Another helicopter (state police) is circling East of it.

That might work in a still-water pond but Lisbon is next to a river that feeds a hydro-power plant.

They’ve surrounded the house. Have spotlights on it. Calling him out. I think they probably wanna go in. But maybe they saw movement. Who knows. Over a hour now.

Is the river wadable? Swimmable? Or he could steal a boat to cross it, but if the boat gets found on the other side, the tracker dog could pick up his scent from there.

I wonder whether one reason to go through his home was to collect scent articles for the tracker dogs. Or DNA samples if he’s dead in the woods and his body isn’t found for months.

ETA: I recall one or two Mythbusters episodes where the bloodhound was able to track through a stream.

The FBI guy on CNN says it’s been under surveillance since last night. Nothing indicating they’ve been inside. A tactical team is there now. Drones, helicopters, flashbacks and all that resource.

I don’t believe he’s there. My wag.

He’d be kinda dumb to go right back home.

I think I heard them say the SUV at the river might be a red herring.

Most likely yes Rudolph had people helping him. There was a lot of crazy surrounding him and supporting him. Rudolph’s brother videotaped himself cutting off his own hand with a circular saw to show solidarity with his brother. Card doesn’t have that kind of support.

Depending on the house thermal cameras could tell if there is someone inside.

It looks like they may be going in, now.

That might not be his house they have surrounded. I just read this:

Investigators have searched Card’s home in Bowdoin, where sources told ABC News they found a note. It was described by sources as a suicide note addressed to Card’s son.

That search that found the note was in the afternoon. Then this evening:

A convoy of armored police vehicles lined the road near a home in Bowdoin, around 7 p.m. ET, Thursday evening.

“Robert Card, you’re under arrest. Come out now,” officers yelled through a megaphone.

“Drop everything and come outside…If anyone is in the residence, walk outside and walk to the front of the driveway,” they said.

That news source also said this:

Information provided to law enforcement shows that Robert Card appears to have “interacted with conspiratorial content” online.

Topics he engaged with included, but were not limited to, concerns about a financial crisis/stock market, LGBTQ+ issues, gun rights and commentary about Democratic public officials, including President Joe Biden.

It remains unknown whether any of his social media usage played any role in the suspect’s decision to go on his rampage Wednesday night.

It would be weird if he was one of our recent RWNJ trolls.

So where are you that you’re seeing these helicopters and are familiar with the area?

There are a number of sites that track aircraft. Flight Radar24, Flight Aware and others

I was starting to picture you as Ray Liotta in Goodfellas.

Ah. So to be clear, you aren’t actually reporting things that you are seeing but things that others have reported. That’s fine, I think but I’m more accustomed to folks saying things like, “Flight24 is showing that…” or, “ABC says the FBI have…” or even, “I just saw online that the suspect…”.

I was confused because I thought you were reporting first-hand information.

Okay, maybe the surrounded house is Card’s after all, given this update from CNN’s ongoing live update thread:

Law enforcement officials returned to the Lewiston shooting suspect’s last known address on Thursday evening, according to CNN teams on the scene.

A spokesperson with the Maine Department of Public Safety, Shannon Moss, told CNN law enforcement is “not positive Robert Card is in this house,” adding officials are “simply doing our due diligence.”

Investigators detected something inside or near Card’s home, which has prompted the activity, a law enforcement official said. They don’t know what or who it is.

At least five law enforcement vehicles, including an armored vehicle, are on scene, CNN reports.

Well you can call me Ray, or you can call me Jay…

After spending a lot of time circling south of Bowdoin the helicopter moved to NE of Lewiston and then left the area. Having nothing to do with anything but it looks like a medical helicopter landed in Lewsiston.

I was wondering about that too as as Magiver was posting about all the helicopters circling last night I was watching a live shot from the site with the guy saying, “we haven’t seen any helicopter overhead in a while.”

Where were they reporting from last night?
