While doing some browsing at IMDb, I happened upon this list which seemed to tie in nicely with the recent thread on celebrities hated or disliked by other fellow celebrities.
I must say that there are quite a few in this person’s list that I think are at least competent performers, but I can easily see how they might make such a list.
The list is just a bunch of names slapped up without any explanation, so it’s kind of baffling.
A lot of the performers who are listed have some peculiarities that I can see someone disliking but… Jeff Bridges? I may be blinded by my love for the Dude, but he sticks out like a sore thumb on this list. Would be nice to see some explanation.
Anyway, I’ll add Kristen Stewart. Between hating that I know what a sparkly vampire is, her too-cool-for-school attitude at awards ceremonies and such, and her (IMHO) wooden performances, my hackles are up every time I see her.
ETA: I see I was scooped by awldune on Bridges… but I’ll add that if I had only ever seen Jeff Daniels in Speed and Dumb and Dumber (which I’m guessing are the two flicks most people know him for), I wouldn’t like him either.
Gerard Butler has virtually no charm. It’s possible that he has talent, but when (if) I watch him, I get so distracted by his -factor that I don’t really pay attention.
Vin Deisel does nothin’ for me…and I’m pretty positive he can’t act.
I swear Vin isn’t that bad of an actor sometimes. He did very well in the Iron Giant and Find Me Guilty. It’s just that everything else he’s done is the grunting monosylabic kind of stuff. He’s not helping himself by doing Riddick movies, then Fast & Furious, then xXx as nauseum.
And the list, Clea DuVall? Really? I can understand Tom Cruise and some of the others, but how can you not stand Clea DuVall?
Tracy Morgan. I’m sure he’s great in 30 Rock, but he’s the reason I’ve never watched it. The way he talks irritates me. It’s like he’s always trying to enunciate and just isn’t quite getting it. Like watching a 5 year old learn to write. You know they know how, but they struggle every step of the way. I like to think that when he gets home at night you can’t understand a damn word he says and he just talks like a normal person.
I liked him in Boiler Room too. I think he just chose the wrong career for himself (artistically that is. It’s probably hard to argue with the money he’s made).
But he’s also a huge geek who insisted that his D&D character’s name be included in his xXx tattoos, so I cut him a little bit of slack.
I know I’ll probably get slated for this, but I nominate Sean Penn and his ridiculous over-emoting. I suppose it worked in Dead Man Walking where it was appropriate, but watching Mystic River, Tim Robbins subtlety was so much more effective that Penn’s excesses.
As people on this board may have noticed from my posts, Jason Alexander. The man has never done anything other than ruin anything he’s even been in, up to and including Cheetos commercials.
Yeah, that’s a ridiculous list. It was created 2 months ago but both Jeff Bridges and Philip Seymour Hoffman are listed as “Actor, The Big Lebowski” and not for their Academy Award-winning roles as Best Actor for Crazy Heart and Capote.
They also threw in some actors from daytime TV and sit-coms.
So, with that in mind, Marcel Marceau was the most annoying actor of all time and he didn’t even have to say a word.
Leonardo DiCaprio also bugs the hell out of me. He over-acts, affects annoyingly inaccurate accents, and has odd mannerisms. He has degraded every film he has appeared in with the exception of Gilbert Grape, in which he was excellent.
Also, what’s annoying about Sean Young? I know she was a little crazy, but I thought she was gorgeous and talented in her prime.
For fear that we were leaving the women out of the fun I was able to locate Who Let the Dogs Out? The World’s Ugliest Women so that a few of my less-than-favorite lay-deez could be displayed for this thread.
I have long said that Penn’s Oscar for Mystic River was the academy’s way of saying “our bad. You should have won for Dead Man Walking, and we gave it to Nic Cage for Leaving Las Vegas instead.”
Here’s my list:
Julia Roberts
Rosie Perez
Renee Zellwiger
Catherine Zeta Jones
Gwyneth Paltrow
Kim Basinger
Nicolas Cage
Keanu Reeves
Will Ferrell has had like, 3 good movies
I’m sure there are other I just can’t think of right now.
