Tara Reid is seriously gross now. The drugs and despite being a movie star…how did she get the worst boob job known to man?
I remember when SL first came out I thought Nicole was pudgey but still very pretty. Then she lost some flab through what looked like exercise, got down to about a size 4 and looked SMOKING. She continued to whittle down to about a size 2, which is pretty typically L.A. but still looked human (I thought she looked better at the curvier though Hollywood obese size 4) and quite attractive.
Now she looks like she’s dying. Seriously fricking wasting away of consumption or something.
Britney Spears seems to not care anymore. Though in her case I think it’s more of a personal choice. If she had better taste I think she’d still qualify as pretty.
Personally, I think of the latest starlets, ScarJo & Natalie Portman are going to keep their looks the longest.
This might be unpopular, considering how many people still go gaga over her, but Nicole Kidman. In Dead Calm she was a fresh faced, freckled beauty (age 22). These days she just looks bony and skeletal. In movies she looks better thanks to makeup, but awards ceremonies? Freaky.
Alicia Silverstone – Went from cute-as-a-button in Clueless to what happened to her? in Blast from the Past only 4 years later. Something happened to her face.
**Jennifer Aniston ** and Courtney Cox – Both started Friends as cute, fresh faced and feminine with a touch of classic beauty. But over the course of the show they tanned, dieted, and lifted weights so much they ended up with bodies of boys on the junior-high featherweight wrestling squad topped with the heads of 50 year old emaciated crank junkies.
I shouldn’t post in such a hurry - I meant to note when I mentioned Kathleen Turner that apparently she’s had health problems, according to one story I read.
I’ll second Teri Hatcher; she doesn’t look really bad, she just aged real quickly.
I just read that, and I think there’s more to her downfall. She went wild when she went to Hollywood, but she was already acting “wild” before she left (letting a boy put his hand between her legs so he would take her backstage to meet a celebrity.)
Her parents were also alcoholics, or at least they were when she finally returned home. I think there’s more here in her childhood than just being dazzled by Hollywood fame.
I don’t think that natural sags and wrinkles are “disgusting.” I don’t have a problem with an actress looking her age, but this movie made her look older than she actually is and exaggerated her flaws.
Her makeup artist was terrible-- the area around her eyes was way too pale, and made the rest of her face look splotchy and hectic. Everyone has bags under their eyes, so I’m not criticizing the fact that she has them-- only that the makeup and weird lighting* emphasized *them. (They must have put the lights directly overhead which cast shadows in all the wrong places.)
The angles they chose to shoot her from were bad ones. Like the scene where she smokes in bed-- if the camera had been set at a little different of an angle it would have highlighted her magnificent cheekbones rather than making them look like two lumps of dough.
Just because it’s thirty years later NOW, doesn’t mean she wasn’t scary in the 80s. And the ugly curve that she set in the 90s more than made up for any differential from late 70s to early 90s.
Adrienne Barbeau scares me now. I wonder if she was ever really a babe, or if the big ones distorted my conception of her.
Teri Hatcher first came to mind when I read the title of the thread. She was killer primo in “Soapdish” but when she got anorexic, (even though she denies this) she got really, really frightening. I recall one of the early ads for radio shack with that football stud. The first thing that came to mind to compare her with was “Bride of Frankenstein.” And Teri was at the disadvantage. She looks a little better now, but…
Oh, wait, I almost forgot: Uma Thurman. She used to be phenomenal. The too skinny thing turned her into something, well, heartbreaking.
And DianeG, don’t stick up for Phoebe; it does both of you an injustice. Compare “Fast times at Ridgemont High” to Princess Caribou. You’ll see an easy 50 lbs difference. Don’t get me wrong, she was still killer hot even with all that bulk, but she wasn’t the same.
Let’s see…any other people 10 or more years younger than myself that I can call ugly???
Hang on there, gonzomax . According to IMDB, she’s 61. I haven’t seen her recently, but I remember her looking pretty smoking hot as recently as 10 years ago. Even if she’s no longer hot, I wouldn’t say her looks faded fast. FWIW, I kinda dig older women… I don’t mind if the grey carpet doesn’t match the drapes, ya know…
Melanie Griffith. First time I noticed her was in Something Wild (when I didn’t
know that was a brunette wig). But now: those lips!
One of the saddest cases tho is Justine Bateman. Her eyes look like…um well not
pretty (at least in a photo I remember from about 3 years ago). Good news is that
her career is picking up now, after a slump of almost 20 years.
Claire Forlani; in Meet Joe Black she was absolutely adorable. But in the most recent Stephen King mini-series, oh. my. Og! That was less than eight years.
Then there’s Nicollette Sheridan. I’m not sure how long it took, but in The Sure Thing she was everybody’s idea of a beach babe. Now, I think she’s another product of a plastic surgery nightmare. Almost makes me feel sorry for her. Then I think of Michael Bolton and realize some people play with fire anyway…
No, a good friend and I had precisely the same discussion over the weekend. She looks too botoxed or something these days. Plus we agreed that we preferred the curly red hair to straight blonde hair.
A lot of these examples are pretty gradual. Here’s a couple that I think faded practically overnight:
Meg Ryan…well, she mostly did it to herself with plastic surgery. Compare pics from 1999 to those from 2003 on this page.
Rachel Ray…around 2002 I had a crush on her; she looked to be mid-20s, when in fact she was a decade older. She’s still awfully cute, but she’s put on some weight and looks a lot closer to her age.
