I always thought it was odd that when 500,000 refugees came from Central America, I would had expected that many had very good reasons to dislike what the USA was doing when they supported the military rulers that killed indiscriminately. And I feared that someday they would act on their hatreds.
Nah, many Salvadorians did die in 9/11, and many did risk their lives in Iraq supporting the USA. We think it is better to try to educate nattering nabobs like you instead of resorting to violence to protest the injustice of the past. We see now the former enemies as friends that eventually learned that supporting coups and military killers was not the way to go. Of course if a guy like Trump is elected… (darn that human side we do have) Many like me will just become disappointed, taking to arms is not what we usually do. So we will just look forward to support the next wave of refugees that will come up thanks to the idiotic interventions that guys like Trump will come up in the future.
What gives me hope is that at least I still see many Americans that do recognize that you are not only wrong but inhumane and scared of your own shadow.
There are a lot more homegrown terrorists already here. You know, Timothy McVeigh types. Or the kind that burned Tulsa back in the day. The one reason I worry about letting in refugees is provoking white nationalists to do violence.
In Syria? :dubious:
I don’t know what you mean by this, but it sounds silly to me.
You’re quite right. Clearly you are in serious danger. I recommend buying all the guns and canned goods you can and sealing yourself into your house until FoxNews reports there is no more danger from foreigners, poor people and minorities. Also, I understand the terrorists can hack into your computer so it may be best to stay offline for the duration.
As I said, actual terrorists can get into the country far more easily as tourists or students - there is no benefit to them coming in as refugees. There is, of course, plenty of reasons for the terrorists to want us to reject the refugees - it gives ISIS more power and credibility and creates more disaffected Muslims (despite adaher’s handwaving and "nuh-uh"ing about Haiti). You may recall that Bush’s divisive rhetoric was an absolute godsend [sic] for Al Qaeda recruiting, in that the more he railed about the war between “us and them” in dualistic terms the more recruits they got. Osama bin Laden even gleefully commented on it. Conversely, when Obama was elected and immediately declared that America was not at was with Islam but only its terrorist fringe (you conservatives may remember this as his “apology tour”) it was seen with great dismay by Al Qaeda in that it undercut their whole “holy war” message.
And now we have ISIS saying the same thing - that what they want is a return to those Manichean “us vs them” rhetoric and policies that force Muslims in the “grayzone” to choose between a Western world that vilifies them or a radical Islam that welcomes them as holy warriors.
And you fuckwits want to give ISIS exactly what they want - and you call it being sensible and risk-averse.
So, let me see if I understand. To show that you’re not actually “exceptionally stupid”, you’ve linked to a story about a fearful letter sent to the POTUS by the Republican chairman of the US HoR Committee on Homeland Security, and you’ve characterized that letter as “Homeland Security’s take” on Syrian refugees.
