In the thread about people’s projects many of the posts have embedded images. I don’t think my Ingur links work that way although it has been awhile since I tried. What’s the trick?
make sure your link ends with an image file extension (eg JPG or PNG)
Eg:
First, you have to post a link to an image; the board doesn’t currently support uploading images. Second, I’ve found that the board can be picky about having the link on its own line and not immediately preceded or followed by text. Third some image formats seem to be supported and others not. Fourth, even then random board gremlins can sometimes. make an image not work until you play around with re-trying to link to it two or three times.
What @pjd said. If your Imgur picture doesn’t end in JPEG, it will come up like this:
If you right click on the picture and click “open image in new tab”, you’ll get a JPEG link and it will look like this:
I got it. I had to place the image link directly in my post rather then using the link tool on the tool bar.
I see the question has been answered. but putting it all together in one place …
The link tool wants you to provide a title. Which results in links like this: Link to Google.
If you want the preview box for a cite, or you want a pic or vid displayed inline, you need the bare url on a line by itself with no leading or trailing spaces or punctuation or formatting.
The other common screw-up is posting the link to a page containing the image, rather than a link to the image itself. Many sharing sites want to make it hard for you to even find the link directly to the image, much less being willing to show it to other people; they don’t get any advertising revenue unless your viewers are seeing the whole page.
Of course the details on how to defeat that vary by hosting site.
