I worked closely with a devout Evangelical bible-banging African-American for over ten years, and never insulted him to his face about religion. Even though I told him I was a Taoist and he kept confusing it with Deist.
We kept our conversations to less adversarial topics, like a woman’s right to abortion and why white and black people hate each other so much. Also, he hated Bob Dylan and Laura Nyro, which led to other disputes.

I as a different sort of Christian could have made fun of Eucharist in the same way. Nothing in the Bible says that the bread or wine is holy. Sure, it was consecrated, but so is food in general when you pray over it.
