I spoke too soon. I got a note from our tech guy a few minutes ago saying he had just put in the block. I presume this is effective right away but possibly there’s a lag. Give it a while and then let me know.
It is doing it right this second while I’m trying post about it.
Mac/Google Chrome
ESB is getting us back for King Kong.
I am currently using Adblock on top of Chrome on my Mac. It works very nicely – I don’t even see the annoying ads.
It’s well nigh unusable for me. Reckon I’ll need to apply an ad blocker as has been mentioned.
If you want to support the site after the problem has resolved, i believe adblock gives you the option of allowing ads from selected sites. I know the Android app does, and i have allowed ads from some valuable sites that thought to ask me to do so.
The scroll take-over thing is still happening to me, on Chrome. But when I use Opera it seems to be immune. Both are on Windows 10 on a Toshiba laptop.
Me, again! The damn building is still controlling the screen.
It doesn’t help support this web site, but if you are tired of ads just download Ghostery and turn off all the tracking cookies. It is easy to use and free.
Then you can be a Guest and see no ads at all. You will have no problem with the scroll take over or anything else because all ads and their problems require tracking cookies in order to work. No tracking cookies, no problem.
You have the option of white listing this site if you want to support it financially by seeing the ads but you will also still deal with all the problems associated with those ads.
When you get fed up with these issues, Ghostery.
I found this forum via Google search for a new message board.
I had been a regular participant on the USMB forum for several years. Earlier this week I began experiencing a scrolling problem which made posting and replying to messages impossible. So I’ve regrettably departed from that forum and here I am. I hope this will be a compatible replacement.
I’m 80 years old, widowed, retired legal investigator, politically moderate. I live in New Jersey, formerly Brooklyn, NY.
I’m on an iMac and downloaded Ad Blocker and have had zero problem since. I highly recommend you do the same, Mike.
Failed to install. Anybody got another good, safe free one?
Are you using Firefox? If not, then it’s no good to you. It only works on Firefox.
Adblock Plus has versions for Firefox, Chrome, IE, Opera, Safari, and some tablets and phones, IIRC. It’s not just Firefox any more.
I stand corrected. But that particular link led to the Firefox extension, which (I presume) wouldn’t work on some of the others.
…ads?
Adblock Plus and Noscript, don’t leave home without them.
I think this is the general site.
That’s what I use.
We replicated the problem involving an ad with a photo of the Empire State Building and have blocked this item. Possibly this may resolve the issues noted above. Please advise if problems persist.
So there are 3 main classes of users:
- Members, who suppposedly (!) don’t get the crappy ads.
- “Guests”, i.e., non-paying regulars, who use adblockers.
- Random vistors who might not have adblockers and flee in horror, never to visit the site again.
Problem solved.
