Ads at the bottom

Why is adblock not removing them?

Its very distracting and annoying! :dubious:

I see no ads with uBlock, AdBlocker Ultimate, and Ghostery running.

UTA, it looks like Adblocker Ultimate is the one taking care of the bottom photo garbage.

I see no ads, I paid for a membership!

Moving this to ATMB.

Adblock’s default setting is to allow non-intrusive ads (which is why I switched to uBlock). If you go to Adblock options you can untick the box which allows those ads and you should be good to go then.

Every time someone reports issues with ads, at least one person comes along and posts something like this. In my opinion this is threadshitting and ought to be moderated as such.

Agreed. A completely pointless response which doesn’t address the issue raised by the OP at all.

well thanks!!! My options box only had two choices so I went to filter preferences and un-ticked the non intrusive ones…criminy, I thought that stupid thing removed all ads. This is the first site I’ve ever had problems with ads not going away

thanks again!

I just had one of those, “unobtrusive” bottom ads pop-up to a full-screen, quite fucking “obtrusive” ad!

Thanks too. Got rid of the click bait.

Someone also comes in tells the user that a service like adblock will fix the problem. That is *also *a pointless response. If someone doesn’t like the ads, why is it okay to suggest adblock and not okay to suggest paying for a membership? Both will “fix” the problem, but neither really get to the underlying complaint,.

Because telling someone they need to pay money to avoid having their browser crash, avoiding malware, avoiding viruses, etc seems like a protection racket*.
Adblockers (and I guess not visiting the site) are free.

*FTR, if it were the mods or managers of the site saying it then it would be a protection racket. AFAIK it is just regular users but it still seems wrong to me. I would pay the donation if I felt it helped keep the site afloat but I’m NOT going to pay because their site threatens my computer with malware or to add to MegaNewsConglomo’s bottom line.

In this case the question is specifically about why some ads are getting past adblock. In the other thread about malicious redirects suggesting adblock would also be threadshitting, especially if the OP states a reluctance to use an ad blocker.

I can’t seem to get any adblockers to “take”, so to speak. I’m running Echo 14, and found one that says it works, I click the button, it says its installed, I click the “launch”, but nothing happens.

What am I doing wrong?

I was seeing those ads with AdBlock on as well, so I clicked on the AdBlock icon at the top of my browser page, and used the Block Element option to block things I highlighted, and it got rid of them.

HOWEVER, be very careful, because I’ve managed to block the posting date now, as well, and can’t figure how to get it back again.
