Adventures in Volunteering (in my mom's Head Start Class)

I’ve been going a little nuts with picture taking lately; especially now that Spring has finally sprung. My mother took a look at some of the pictures I took of my kids, and was rather impressed.

So impressed that she begged me to come in and take pictures of her students for the Mother’s Day presents she was working on. Being the good daughter that I am, and welcoming a chance to practice taking shots of kids less cooperative than my own (my kids love the camera, and the camera loves them), I gladly obliged. So here I am sitting in her classroom, waiting for the kids to show up, and scared out of my mind. Kids are great - I have three of my own - but I will be photographing 60 children today. And my mother is a definite stickler for quality. Plus, she’s been talking up my photographic skills to everyone she works with, so everyone is expecting these amazing pictures. But hey, no pressure

What’s really been neat so far is watching my mother at work. I’ve never been to work with her before, so it’s pretty cool watching her “in her element”; typing up lesson plans and getting ready for the day, chatting with the other teachers and being the charming, witty woman everyone knows and loves. (“Just try living with her,” I tell them.)

So if I don’t report back later, it is safe to assume that a horde of 60 screaming, 3 year old divas have slain me, and are doing the hokey pokey on my Crayola-smeared carcass.

Wish me luck!
