Aerosmith and Tallahassee

Hey all y’all…

I live in Tallahassee Florida, a bustling metropolis in the same manner than Manhattan is an ecological preservation… In other words not!

But back to the subject: In listening to an old Aerosmith CD recently, I noticed the following lyrics in the song “Last Child”:
Take me back to a south Tallahassee
Down cross the bridge to my sweet sassafrassy
Can’t stand up on my feet in the city
Gotta get back to the real nitty gritty

Yes sir, no sir
Don’t come close to my
Home sweet home

If I’m not mistaken, Steven Tyler seems to be refering to Tallahassee as his “Home Sweet Home”. Did Steven Tyler indeed live in Tallahasse, or have some type of connection? (or any other band member for that matter.)

In search of hometown pride…

According to http://www.fanasylum.com/aerosmith/aeromain2.html (Look under the biographies section), no, none of the (current) members of Aerosmith come from Tallahassee.

AFAIK, all the guys from Aerosmith are from Boston. Maybe Steven Tyler just has an emotional attachment to Tallahasee because of a fling he had there. Kinda like those old country ditties that start out “…I once had a girl in Albequerque…”

According to aerofaq.com:

Steven Tyler and Joey Kramer are from NYC;

Tom Hamilton from Colorado Springs, CO;

Brad Whitford, Winchester, MA;

And Joe Perry, Lawrence, MA.

3 members of the band (Tyler, Perry, and Hamilton) got together in Sunapee, NH, and then moved to Boston where they hooked up with Kramer and eventually Whitford, who replaced original guitarist Ray Tabano (who, if I’m reading the FAQ right, got together with the first 3 in Sunapee).
