Aflac! Oh, OH, oh!

A current Aflac commercial has the Aflac Duck practicing his lines. One of the variations it tries is ‘Aflac! Oh, OH, oh!’ I can’t place where that ‘Oh, OH, oh!’ comes from.

Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana: “O, o, o, totus floreo.”

Cordwainer Smith, “Golden the Ship Was: Oh! Oh! Oh!”

Sorry… The boy Harry doth take the mock… never mind.

It sounds like yo, yo, yo to me.

My read on it was that they really wanted a version to be basically “Aflac, oh-no-you-di-in’t”, the stereotypical upset youngish African American female vibe… but toned it down a little bit to avoid any possible dust-up (e.g. ZOMG it’s a white duck doing a black character" sort of stories).

I mean, the “Aflac-u” voice is clearly supposed to make us think of an Asian. Honestly I wonder how & why the piece got out.

I can’t find the commercial. Is it said the same way as Rerun’s “Hey HEY hey!”? Clip.

Here’s the commercial.

The first line he does is Yo, Yo, Yo…definitely nothing to do with Carmina Burana, and definitely a take on a common hip-hoppy line. The later he does the uh-uh! typically done before the “no you didn’t” line referenced above.

It also seems a bit off given the context of the commercial, which is “Okay, how do we replace the voice of the guy we fired for making an insensitive remark?”

ETA I watched again… notice for the oh oh oh the hand/wing is in the air in the Talk to the hand sort of pose. Hilarity ensues.

To be clear, it’s the fifth one; before ‘I am so fired.’

It seems like a tagline used by a 1980s comedian. I know I’ve heard it before, but I just can’t place it.

No, not Arnold Horschack. Different delivery and intention.

Sam Kinison?

No. Check out the link the Warren Zevon fan posted. It’s the fifth iteration of the line, just before the guy says ‘I am so fired.’

Maybe I should have written it as ‘Aw, AW, aw!’ It’s hard to type an accent. Arnold Horshack did his line with a certain cadence and emphasis that meant ‘Hey, pay attention to me!’ Kinison was more like ‘Oh, the pain! Can you feel it?’ The way the duck says it, and which I remember a comedian saying it, is more like an uncool guy being cool and saying ‘Oh, yes; I’m all that!’
