Afroman punches woman on stage

Can I call the guy who just cut me off a stupid ching-chong-chinaman, or should I just stick to describing his skin color? Can I say “throw her beaner ass in jail,” or should I stick to “stupid cunt of Latina descent?” Enquiring minds!

Which is fucking idiotic.

The fuck it isn’t.

Oooh, “Racial =/= Racist”, what a surprise.

Go fuck a cactus, creepy stalker dude.

I don’t have to look. It doesn’t seem to need to hide itself on this board, at all.

There are people who possess enough wit, cleverness, originality, artistry or simple charisma to use racially-loaded terms in a funny or provocative way, and manage to get away with it.

magellan01 is not one of them.

It is inherently descriptive, not judgemental. The person using it may or may not have racist intent, but the statement alone doesn’t show that.

Not every mention of race is necessarily racist. Is magellan01 racist? Fucked if I know, but I doubt it. There’s very few racists on this board - again, despite the paranoid nonsense Dribble is spouting. The idea that anything except scrupulously avoiding any mention of race if (and only if) you’re white is the only way not to be racist is absurd.

It’s a fact, though. “Racism” is discrimination based on race, or a proxy for it such as skin colour. Describing someone’s race is not - cannot - be racist.

“Put his black ass in jail” - not racist.
“Put him in jail because he’s black” - racist.

It is really simple, and people confusing the two are one of the main things slowing the fight against racism. If you say someone is racist for saying the former, and they know they’re not, why the hell would they listen to you if you say they’re racist for saying the latter? You’ve already proved you don’t know what racism is.

So get the fuck over yourself, accept that nobody has a responsibility to be nice to you or your skin, and focus on discrimination when it actually happens, not on bullshit.

:dubious:

 No,U.

That’s actually a slightly more nuanced and intellectually stimulating rebuttal than I expected.

You really do not have a fucking clue how people think, do you?

It’s about the level creepy stalker dudes deserve

I think I have a pretty good idea how racists think, actually.

A valuable lesson was learned here: Unless Afroman invites you onstage, stay the fuck off the stage.

Comedian Bill Burr has an explanation for most of the reactions here: women act out because they know they won’t get punched in the face like a man would. Except, Afroman treated her just like a guy, just like Keith Richards treated his interloper. Good for Keith and and good for Afroman. I hope it was a one punch knockout.

Quite possibly, it’s your idea of how not-particularly-racist white guys think that is so fundamentally flawed. You genuinely think that any mention of race that isn’t glowing praise is evidence of racism and bigotry. Which is absurd and offensive. Not that I imagine you and the giant chip on your shoulder care about the latter.

Here’s something to remember - most things aren’t about race. Most things that you think are about race, aren’t about race. No-one in this thread, for example, has been even slightly racist - no-one has said Afroman should be treated differently because he’s black.

If your complaint is that people mention his race, then my “get the fuck over yourself” stands.

I’m sure someone will be along shortly to explain how your belief in treating people equally is somehow sexist or misogynistic. And probably racist as well.

The venue should have handled the obviously had too much to drink female as soon as she got on stage.

As a professional performer, he should know that these things happen and be prepared for it. Clocking her was uncalled for.

So what’s the point of bringing it up in the first place? Why is his race relevant?

“Throw his ass in jail” is perfectly understandable. What is the point of saying “throw his black ass in jail,” if not to make a statement about his race?
.

That’s got to be one of the creepiest things I’ve read at the SDMB.
“I’m drunk”
and
“I’m trying to have a good time”

…would be the icing on a shit filled sexual assault cake.

Obviously it’s making a statement about his race. He, and his arse, are black. Stating that is not, of itself, racist.

There’s a couple of reasons one might bring it up, one of which is racism. That would be pretty easy to figure out from context, but not from the statement itself. The other is euphony, that it is a sentence that just *sounds * better, and more emphatic, than without additional word.

In the latter case, the race isn’t relevant, it’s incidental. Which is my point, that many references to someone’s race - or any other feature - may well be incidental, and if people took less offence at them the world would be better, and we could focus on those times when it isn’t incidental.

I suspect we could get into the matter of intention, and what it changes–or doesn’t–in this context, but I have chores and frankly can’t be fucked.

But thanks, Steophan; I appreciate your perspective and your clarity.
.

Unless he’d suffered a terrible accident and there hadn’t been any Black donors at the ass bank.

I understand what you’re saying here. It’s just that while I do see your point in that it should just, in perhaps a perfect world, be merely an innocuous adjective, nothing less, nothing more, it’s hard for me to see it that way. I’ve never heard a white persons say “throw his white ass in jail.” I have heard white people say “throw his black ass in jail” (or similar constructions.) If it’s merely a reason of emphasis and euphony, why don’t I hear the first form? I would similarly find a black person saying “throw his white ass in jail” racially offensive–I wouldn’t buy the “euphony” or “oh, I’m being emphatic” argument there, either. Does that make you a racist? I can’t get into anyone’s head, and of course would not say something like that based on one comment, but it certainly suggests some biases if you point out the race of someone when it’s not the same as yours and is not relevant to the story, especially in a negative light like this one. I’m certainly guilty of these types of constructions in other ways. I’m not perfect, I have my biases, too. But I’m not going to pretend it’s just me being poetic with my prose.

It’s an attribute of the man. Throw his…

black
fat
skinny
tough-guy
four-eyed
crossed-eyed
buck-toothed
stupid
macho
misogynistic
pussy
punk
hack
wannabe

…ass in jail.

And for the record. I didn’t even refer to “black”. I referred to his nappy hair, which was DIRECTLY related to “African”. And just to tie your two-synapse brain into a not, when I was in high school I had one of the biggest afros in the school, which was about 40% black.

Please, please, give this stupidity up. Fuck. It’s just SO fucking stupid.

You stand corrected.
