This is a dangerous question even to ask, as Secret Service has been known to question folks who take an undue interest in such scenarios.
More dangerous for those who respond, I’m sure. That’s a ridiculous paranoid fear, anyway.
Allrighty then.
There has never lived a human so evil as to commit an act that would result in Dick Cheney becoming president.
Cheney’s just as bad as Bush. Maybe even worse. I’d be afraid for the response he give to whatever group killed the president.
My thoughts exactly.
And because I like to trot out this story…my mother voted for Nixon in 1960 because she loathed Lyndon Johnson and hated the idea that he would become President if anything happened to Kennedy.
Menocchio’s spot on.
I do not like Bush at all; I think he’s bad for the country. But I fail to see where Cheney is one bit better, except that perhaps he wouldn’t come across as such a nerd in his televised speeches.
In fact, considering some of Cheney’s alleged actions recently, and the investigations pending, I’d say it might be worth eating a bullet to keep Bush alive, rather than face the idea of President Cheney.
who ever is president or which party rules does not makes any difference, all of us are slaves to the dollar and indebted up to the ears.
I’d just think “Oh shit, now we’ve got Cheney.” Really, I would be worried, even though I despise Bush.
I admit, I’m not the most politically aware person despite having strong opinions on various issues so can someone explain to me how Cheney would be worse than Bush?
Speaking as one who cannot wait to vote against Bush, I would be (1) sad for his family, and (2) horrified that this awful, awful statesman will now be a martyr in history and that his hateful, shortsighted, and destructive policies will be granted an undeserving luster of sentimental support “in his honor.” I’d much rather he serve out whatever term he’s legitimately elected to, and then fervently hope that in the long run people will slowly come to recognize his corruption for what it is, and ultimately relegate him to the Warren G. Harding Memorial Dustbin of morally bankrupt leaders. Assassination, it seems to me, would make that much, much less likely. So no, even as someone who loathes what this man represents, not only would I not feel any satisfaction, secret or otherwise, at his murder in office, I actually sort of resent the implication.
It’s probably because he’s older, y’know, had more time to learn how to be E-E-E-E-E-E-EVIL… he’s probably deeper in the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy[sub]TM[/sub], too.
Anyway, if the President is assassinated, I would be shocked, annoyed, and quite insistent that we find the person or persons responsible, put them on trial, and punish them. Anyone that would act otherwise, in my opinion, has their priorities askew.
How soon after re-election? Because if that asshole is re-elected, I’ll really need something to cheer me up…
Note: I have half-anticipated a Bush assassination (attempt)ever since his election, simply because… well, fits the pattern. Elected in a year ending with a zero, after all. Unless you’re one of those that refuses, for whatever reason, to admit that he was, indeed, elected.
Hey, if he IS assassinated, that would mean all the people that claim he’s an illegitimate President were proven wrong by fate! Holy crap, the stars are acting against ya…
Dick Gregory has predicted he won’t serve out his term.
That could mean something other than assassination though.
Wasn’t his Skull&Bones nickname Temporary?
interesting…
Assassination is nothing to joke about, and suggesting assassination as a surity is both dangerous and stupid.
