Disappointing episode all the way around - not just for all the points already raised, but also because it was so freaking obvious that Lincoln was playing Daisy. I didn’t see them putting Lash on the Quinjet, or Coulson and May’s complicity in the plot, but it was plain as day that Lincoln was trying to redeem himself by getting to Daisy to stop/rescue her.
I didn’t think the plan to have Lincoln trick Daisy was all that obvious even though I had my suspicions. My wife thought it was pretty well executed, she was caught completely by surprise. Again, the video screen in the isolation cube was another Chekhov’s Gun - you knew it was going to be used to communicate as soon as they showed it. I also liked Sparky’s line about “I couldn’t get out of here without help” as a fairly subtle signal to Daisy. That was clever writing IMO.
Have we completely dropped the Hydra storyline? Last week Hydra went poof and we’re moving on?
How useful would an army of overcooked Inhumans be? I mean they were obedient and all, but what happens after you take over the world full of them? Not sure why this appeals to Hive. I still love Dr Radcliff - completely amoral but fun as heck. Is he really the best doctor Shield and Hive could find?
Rasta-hulk. snort Let’s see how May comes through this emotional roller coaster. At least Andrew ending up saving Daisy in the end, but with the way I feel about her character (Daisy) I’m not sure that’s a plus. How much damage did he do to Hive? Or is that just going to be ignored?
In the preview for next week’s show, didn’t we see Fitz holding the infamous Cross of Doom?
Why was it obvious? There were no hints, no Chekhov’s Guns pointing to it. Previous episodes have shown that he’s in love with her and the team cannot trust him. I don’t mind if people say they’ve always had a suspicion of a guy, but I don’t think it was obvious at all.
I often think when people say something was “obvious” it really means “my guess was right!”
I thought Lash saving Daisy by burning out the Hive influence was also going to burn out her Inhuman powers. I thought that might be a nice twist.
Well, consider myself surprised that people believed Lincoln really was betraying the team for Daisy. But his whole character arc has been trying to prove his loyalty to them, and being met with distrust and suspicion. Dramatically it makes complete sense he would prove them all wrong.
Plus, he had had his chance to escape with Daisy when she left and turned her down. I thought it was clear that he wanted to save her from Hive, not join her, and his sudden change of heart was a ploy to get access to her. Like I said, I wasn’t expecting Coulson and May to be in on it, but it was pretty clear (IMHO) he had a plan.
The place where my eyebrows went up was when we saw the broken camera on the ground in the quinjet bay. Clearly someone broke that so Daisy couldn’t see what was happening, but I didn’t suspect it was so Daisy wouldn’t see Lash being loaded into the jet.
When Hive said that he needed all of Daisy’s blood (right before Lash arrived) I assume that meant she was going to be sacrificed to create the overcooked Inhumans, right? If there was any thoughts of Hive retaining some of the attachment to people that his hosts had contact with it appears to be all part of his act. He doesn’t care about any specific Inhumans, he’s using everyone to achieve his goals.
What kinda bugged me is how Lincoln and Daisy could have a face-to-face conversation. I assume she has a webcam on or immediately beside her monitor, but the camera in his cell was not near the TV set, so from her perspective when he was facing his monitor, she should have been seeing him from the side.
Not a huge leap to think that the big TVs in the isolation chambers would be used for conferencing, interviews, interrogation so they would have two way capability.
Oh, nice one. And of course, the child ends up the most powerful inhuman ever, destined to greatness, complete with vague prophecy! There’ll probably be some inhuman sect appearing out of nowhere worshipping the child as their messiah, and Daisy as the mother of god, or something.
That part absolutely didn’t make any sense to me. Sure, you can drain her now for a couple of liters, and create a couple of subinhumans—but you can also just farm her, feed her an iron-rich diet, creating an effectively limitless supply, plus avoid wasting her capabilities.
So you create Inhumans and you get Hive and instead of killing him you send him to another planet and thousands of years later Lash will be born and coincidentally become Lash at just the right time to take him out? I puke.
Ok, due to circumstances I haven’t seen the episode like I normally do, and probably won’t for a while, but for S and Gs, let’s create the list of people who may or may not die in the liklihood they will die (as foretold by me):
Tier 1: Most likely to Die
Mack
Yo-yo
Other Spanish-speaking inhuman (sorry I don’t remember his name)
Tier 2: Wouldn’t be surprised if they died
Fitz
Simmons (more likely Fitz though cuz she already had her thing on the blue planet)
Tier 3: Wouldn’t make much sense/outside-of-the-show reasons
May (they wouldn’t have a badass female that is “normal”. Plus shes one of the obvious minority actresses and the public may be mad for killing the only asian character)
Sparky (He’s too new of a character and the showrunners obviously want an impact character to die and I don’t think people care about him enough)
Tier 4: Not gonna happen
Coulson
Daisy
Hive/Ward
Random grunt character (not enough of an impact, plus I don’t think they’re important enough to the team to do something important enough to die)
I think Hive/Ward is basically guaranteed to die, and Daisy is at least in the “wouldn’t surprise me” category. Yo-yo and the metal melting dude are not important enough to matter and their deaths would be a lame cop out.
Coulson and Daisy are untouchable. Coulson is what the whole show is based around and Daisy is Whedon’s Buffy love doll Mary Sue. The only way she dies is if the actress finds a better job.
Everyone else is fair game. Whedon knows we know Fitz is a goner but that wouldn’t stop him from killing him anyway, after we’ve breathed a few sighs of relief.
Ward has to die eventually.
Everytime Ward and Daisy talk about draining her I think "yes yes yes! Drain her! Drain her good! Drain her 'til she’s a dried up husk and blows away as a pile of sand! She’s the reason everyone else in the show is expendable.
LOL. You seem to feel about Sparky the way I feel about Daisy. How come Daisy is all “the closest thing I have to a daughter” but Sparky is all “shut up Sparky.” At least this episode they treated him better and he got to do something right.
