Ah, milroyj, we barely knew ye.

That’s true, but I wonder if it’s not a bit much to always be a jerk. And there are some lines that just should never be crossed.

Yeah, but that’s a very subjective rule, especially because the Pit is the forum created for behaviour that would be jerkish elsewhere on the boards.

This is a surprise. I’ve always thought milroyj was an asshole, but I’ve never thought he was a jerk.

stpauler nailed it. This is a bullshit banning.

His “trolling” thread from the OP’s link is not any worse than the hundreds of content free Bush bashing posts that get posted around here.

“unnecessarily nasty in the Pit” WTF?

His “hijack” of a thread into Terry Shiavo material is no different than the many threads that get hijacked into Bush bashing sessions regularly.

It is subjective, sure, but I think the point is that even though the Pit is where you should go when you flame someone, it is not just a rule-less free for all. His post at Hentor was pretty vile and an uncalled for attack. I don’t think you get a pass on it just because you didn’t post it in MPSIMS, vile is vile, mean is mean, jerkish is jerkish. We just demand MORE etiquette in the other forums.

It was vile, sure, but some would say that Hentor was acting like an unreasonable ass in that thread and I’m not sure how “uncalled for” it was. I mean, a pit thread that backfires isn’t exactly a rare occurence…

He’s been a monumental tool and colossal jerk for a long time. One thing I love about this board is that the rules aren’t legalese: act like a jerk and you’re out of here.

Were I a conservative, I’d be even happier to see him gone: few people could make conservative positions sound as idiotic as he could.

Daniel

stpauler and Debaser, I am afraid, pegged it. This is a bullshit banning.

Funny that I don’t see this kind of thing in the, what, twelve million Bush-bashing threads.

And if this is trolling, Reeder should be banned.

And if hijacking a thread to beat on your pet political bugaboo is a consistently bannable offense, rjung wouldn’t have lasted a year. And yet, there he is.

Shodan

Y’know, I couldn’t really give a tinkers damn about Milroybut he wasn’t the biggest peckerhead on this board by a long shot, just swam upstream, a lot. That isn’t really against the rules. The banning was not necessarily unjustified because of the fair warning and all, but it almost seems like we’re trying to keep out the “riff-raff” and stifle dissent based on the dissenter being a dickhead.

Problem is, if you’re a proponent of free speech, you’ve gotta give the dickhead equal time.

Yeah, I know, this isn’t free, and this isn’t a democracy, yet I think we ought to hold ourselves to a higher standard.

Yeah, maybe, but it seems like it was referring to an exchange in some other thread. I’d like to know what the previous stuff was about before passing judgement. (I’m sure the board population is on tenterhooks waiting for my take on the situation…)

Maybe bringing up a topic to stir up shit is more likely to be considered trolling by the mods if it’s about an incident decades ago. At least Reeder’s threads (from what I can recall) are usually about current things, and the fact that they just happened makes them more valid points to discuss.

That said, I also think milroyj’s thread should have been allowable. It’s in the friggin’ pit, let the bullshit fly.

I looked through those post, and milroyj heard a conversation going on, hijacked it to talking the most disgusting things, and would let go, nor did he change his stance one iota baised on peoples comments, or acknowledge their legitamacy. He wasn’t interested in anything more then screaming at the tops of his lungs that he didn’t like what happend in the past over and over again, during a conversation. Also:

vs. any one of Reeder’s threads. One is a bunch of nonsense, which got people enraged, and the other is a bunch of comments about real stupid things repugs did, in recent memory, which got real funny, on-topic responces. Obviously, “trolling” depends on how people respond, and the legitamacy of the complaint.

You mean like how “very right wing” it was of Jenna Bush to stick out her tongue at photographers?

That wasn’t a lot more recent than Chappaquiddick?

See the crap from Diogenes about Laura Bush’s traffic accident in the very same threads that got milroyj banned. That is not exactly recent, Laura was never convicted of any wrong-doing, she has never been elected to the Senate - and yet it passes unremarked by the mods, while milroyj gets the hook.

Go figure.

milroyj gets slapped down for calling Kennedy a murderer - by many of the same types who call Bush a murderer.

milroyj gets slapped down for saying Kennedy was drunk. Many of the same types call Bush a coke-head, based on the same lack of evidence.

I gotta quit double posting, I know.

Diogenes in that thread was saying, “YOu wanna bring up stupid shit, I can bring up stupid shit too!”

milroy was saying, “Watch me bring up stupid shit!”

There’s a difference.

And I betcha that if someone started a thread whose OP consisted of:

the mods would slap that shit down, too.

milroy was a tool in a category by himself. I’m delighted that he’s gone, and marvel at the mods’ patience in not banning him earlier.

Daniel

I was warned for being “too inflammatory” in that food aversion thread a while ago. Milroy’s post about Hentor “disrobing” his child was at least as nasty as anything I said. He basically accused Hentor of molesting his his son and he had several previous warnings. How many chances is he supposed to get?
Really, this notion that the admins are conspiring to get rid of conservatives is ridculous. If that was the case, why would they single out the dumbest one on the board? Why not go for the smarter ones who can actually do some rhetorical damage in a debate?

Don’t be an idiot.

Shodan

I said “double posting”. Not triple. :smack:

I brought it up to make a point about how stupid it is to bring up irrelevant shit about candidates’ families and how that’s a game that everyone can play. It had a rhetorical purpose to it. Please don’t misrepresent what I say.
