Ahh, springtime in the Rockies

2-4 feet of snow coming this weekend.

[From the National Weather Service](http://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=COZ034&warncounty=COC117&firewxzone=COZ212&local_place1=2 Miles SE Frisco CO&product1=Winter+Storm+Warning&lat=39.5562&lon=-106.0642#.VxDq2q32a70)

  • TIMING…SNOW WILL BEGIN FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND CONTINUE THROUGH
SATURDAY AND INTO SUNDAY. THE SNOW COULD BE HEAVY AT TIMES.

  • SNOW ACCUMULATIONS…ACCUMULATIONS OF 2 TO 4 FEET OF SNOW CAN BE
    EXPECTED THROUGH EARLY SUNDAY.

Going to be driving down from Summit County (central Colorado Mountains) to Denver Saturday Morning. And then back up home Sunday morning. Should be fun.

According to the forecasts it’ll be Snowmaggedon. Most insulting are the signs “CDOT is preparing”. They are the worst when it comes to clearing freeways during the actually snowstorm.

Does Carman Miranda show up? That might be really bad.

SE Wyoming is in the bullseye of the storm and it’s already snowing. 12-15" inches predicted. Looking forward to a weekend on the couch.

What’s with the all caps?

That’s the National Weather services doing. I just Copy/paste.

There is a recent thread around here somewhere about it. They are going to go to mixed case apparently.

Wish I could get some late season powder runs in, but I’m stuck back east. :frowning:

Those of the locals who can get to the slopes are thrilled at the unexpected last-of-the-season skiing opportunity. Sadly, Telemark, they are all happy the out of staters won’t be able to get here quickly enough to join them. (My workplace is steadily emptying as the day goes forward. lol)

I have to drive from Denver to Greeley on Saturday late afternoon and was planning to drive home Saturday night. Now I’m thinking I may stay over in Greeley.

We can probably blame this late season storm on me. I put my snow shovel up into the garage rafters for summer storage last weekend.

Far worse. Cartman Miranda.

18-30" of heavy, wet snow in my area. I’m just going to clear the sidewalks and let the sun take care of my driveway. It’ll all be a memory by next Thursday.

Huh. For the third time in 23 years that I have worked there, Summit County shut down and sent employees home at 3:30 pm. That’s cool.

Hoosier pass was fine for people prepared for it. But there was an accident that had me waiting on the road for an hour and a half. I hope they will be OK.

I canceled my trip to Denver tomorrow. Mom is OK. I try to visit her at least every three weekends.

An inch an hour on the continental divide. I suspect we will average that till Monday. Maybe more.

The plow truck is still chained up on all four. I suspect I will also be using the Kubota 4x4 loader.

My Wifes 2016 Outback still has ‘All Season’ tires on it. Um…no. It’s been stuck 3 times in the last month. Good car. Shitty OEM tires.

The good news is that we are not flying out of Denver to Akumal Mexico tomorrow. That’s next weekend. Bwaahhaaaa.

yeah, erm sorry bout that, we ordered a bit of rain here in ID, aaaand some jack-wagon forgot to flip the switch to the off position when we were done with the clouds before releasing them to continue drifting off into CO and WY

again, sorry about that

National Weather Service reports and alerts are always full caps. Just like military communications, it is a holdover from early teletype days where all words are capitalized.

TireRack.com has a special closeout on Blizzaks (not my favorite snow and ice tire, but it is competent) and you can get them shipped mounted and prebalanced on steel rims for easy changeout. However, the Subie isn’t going to handle 2-4 feet of snow before it is plowed out; that’s iffy even for a full sized 4x4 truck or off-road vehicle. I’d frankly just telecommute or take the day off work until the storm is over and the roads are plowed. Even if you’re skilled at driving in those conditions, there will be plenty of overoptimist idiots on the road who aren’t.

Thanks for the advise Stranger.

Elevation - 11,200 feet in Colorado since 1992. We know vehicles, snow and snow tires.

Plowed twice today and will go out to plow again in a few hours. Pulled out my neighbors chained up CJ at 7am ~ enipla

30 inches measured so far. That brings us to 19 feet for the year. About average for our house. We have seen 30 foot years.

Gong to plow again today after my Wife leaves to go skiing. I’m going to put it off as long as I can so that maybe I only have to plow once.

How are my friends along the front range doing?

SE WY got most of its snow last night and this morning - probably 10-11" total. My city issued a “no unnecessary travel” alert, but it’s already beginning to melt now. It wasn’t that bad a storm for us, and it helped that we got a break from the snow for most of Saturday.
