In the recent thread on SSM and rights I have discovered a new shitbag in the mix. I expect morons like Magellan and Magiver to show up blowing load after sticky load of hate, prejudice and ignorance all over the mustachioed face of reason.
But from stage right, a new star takes the field. Yorick73. A scummy douchebag dimmer and angrier than the M twins.
Yorick, you are a fucking prejudiced sack of shit. And hopefully no one is ever in a position to strip rights away from you, like you want to do to others. I’d reccomend that someone of your limited capacity sit out debates… but you do make them fun with your clumsy wiggling.
Wow. That’s a whole bunch of serious stupid right there.
To me, a happily married, theistic heterosexual, I say this: if your marriage is threatened by the very idea of two people of the same sex marrying one another, then maybe (probably!) your marriage has bigger problems than who is marrying who. . .
Eh, I’ve read some his posts from threads prior to the one that so annoyed the OP. He’s a reactionary, apparently thinks the person who makes the last post wins the argument, and is frankly rather dull. I mostly skip over his stuff now.
OTOH, the OP needs to switch to decaf. If every douchebag on the Internet gets you this wound up, your life must be filled with misery.
Someone once posted something very similar to what I’m about to say, so credit to them…
yorick73, something for you to keep in mind: It’s not at all unreasonable to think that the things we put out on the web will be around for a very long time. So it is also not at all unreasonable to think that generations hence, our children and their children will be able to take a look back and see what we have written.
Now, I hope you’re smart enough to know that SSM will happen, and in our lifetime. The ignorance and hatred that holds it back, while powerful, cannot sustain itself. You’re fighting a losing cause. You may feel it’s a cause worth fighting, but I’m sure you know it’s one that is, in the long run, lost.
History is going to look back and regard those who fought against SSM the way we look back and regard those who tried to keep segregation going. You may think the two are completely different, but you’re simply wrong – obviously it’s not the exact same case, but from a basic human rights point of view, there is no difference.
So, when you put all that together, you have a situation where 50, 60 years from now, your grandchildren – who for all we know will have happily married gay parents – can look back to find out about their grandfather. Hopefully, after they find out how bigoted and hateful he was, they’ll eventually come across some writings where he redeems himself with some “Wow, was I ever an idiot back in the 'Aughts” posts.
I don’t know about Magiver, but I’ve probably spent more time debating magellan on gay marriage than anyone else on the board. And based on those interactions, I’d have to say that he does not display those qualities in any appreciable amount. A touch of prejudice, but on the whole, far less than you find in the average American on this particular topic.
yorick hasn’t pinged my radar before now, but I have to say, anyone who argues that gays and straights have the same marriage rights, in that both are free to marry someone of the opposite sex, has got to be suffering from some sort of profound mental defect.
And yet it seems to be a fairly common argument. I suspect that even the arguer doesn’t believe it- it’s just a quick way out of the argument. I’m currently arguing with someone on another board on this very subject, and he just trotted out the “but they can marry anyone they want… as long as it’s someone of the opposite sex. They have just as many rights as we do!” bit.
yorick seems like a stupid cunt. He should be made to suck some dick and then have his driving license taken away. I don’t know what that would prove but it’d fucking make me laugh. What a cunt.
I’ve heard that line quite a bit from people of the Freeperite persuasion. Apparently it’s considered a devastating, unrebuttable argument in certain circles.
