He passed away on Saturday. It’s a shame that there’s so little news coverage on this. For those not familiar he was the chief diver on the Calypso. He joined in 1952 and appeared in virtually all of Cousteau’s documentaries, participating in all three Conshelf experiments and was the main pilot for the diving saucer. He was a diving pioneer and a truly amazing man.
I grew up watching Cousteau and Falco on TV. Those red watch caps…le sigh…
Me too. And I still have a three-foot model of Calypso waiting to be built. (I also have a couple of red watch caps.)
Rock me Amadeus?
“a strong and competent diver”… (q.f. Jacques Cousteau)
RIP Albert-the chances this guy took (he once dove to 350’ on air-a pioneer of the aqualung).
I agree-there should be more coverage of this.
I grew up on National Geographic and “The Silent World”.
