Alberta, Natural Resources, and the Rest of Canada

Everyone should watch Rath, at least once. He is a person who has manicured his mannerisms to be as Trump-like as possible.

The flippant, gish-galloping, swirl of insults, lies, grandstanding, and conspiracies. The lack of earnestness used to obscure the seriousness of the damage of his campaign. The over promising (removal of all taxes, all regulation, immediate Asian markets, cheap affordable housing for 25 year olds) is so wide and heavy as to depict an unchecked fantasy of riches all stemming from unchecked resource exploitation without pause to its viability.

If you back a Fascist you are a Fascist. If you ally with a Fascist you are a Fascist.

That’s a fundamental truth that no economic argument or weasel words can paint over.

Yes 30% of Albertans are fascist. Thanks for confirming what you think of us.

You speak for 30% of Albertans? I speak only for me.

This is who you are claiming is fascist Mikisew vs Sheila Copps

A racist and fascist that sticks up for natives rights? What have you done that reaches that level?

Rath is THE LEADER of the Alberta Prosperity Project, the group advocating for separating Alberta from Canada.

Sure he’s one person. THE LEADER. He was giving the keynote. He was not just some dude shouting crap at the back.

He was CHEERED by the crowd for saying his Alberta would have a “strong deportation program” He was CHEERED by the crowd for his anti-immigrant stance. Note - not anti “illegal” immigrants. Anti LEGAL immigrants.

This is not “fear mongering”. It is reporting the actual words and facts from the leader of the separatist movement at a public gathering of like minded individuals.

Try to run away from Rath all you want - he’s your leader, and you need to own his words.

Here are some words from Kathy Kathy Flett, a major voice in the Alberta Prosperity Project movement: Again quoting the Edmonton Journal January 15

"Everything is wrong with Canada,” she said, adding that Alberta and Saskatchewan were given no choice or chance to negotiate when they entered Confederation — that the two provinces were, in her words, “colonized by Ottawa.”

She said the feds support the “jihadist extremist population,” and pointed to a recent Supreme Court decision that struck down minimum sentences for possessors of child pornography.

“These aren’t our values,” she said, to much applause.

And she said communist and socialist parties are on school campuses, trying to recruit students.

“The Marxists, they’re here and trying to get our kids.”

Oh and here’s more from Rath, the LEADER of this shit-show:

Last week, Rath said there is no chance for statehood, but that the messaging from south of the border is that “they want to see Alberta taken out from under the control of Communist China.” A lot of APP messaging suggests that the current government has alliances with Beijing, and it’s a major selling point at town halls.

The people running the APP are conspiracy theory peddling whack-jobs.

This is not “fear mongering”. This is reporting what these people are saying.

Yep. Most Albertans know that. The rest are living in a dreamworld, where it would rain unicorns and sunshine every day if it were not for those dastardly Liberals in Ottawa.

I’m serious. I’m in Alberta, and the only person I know who supports separatism is the drunk at the end of the bar, who has six beers and mumbles to himself, punctuated every so often by, “Fucking Trudeau.” An anecdote is never data, but if he’s an example of an Alberta separatist, then that tells you a lot about Alberta separatists.

As for Communists, Marxists, and Socialists on school campuses, well, they’ve been there since Marx and Engels wrote The Communist Manifesto. I well remember a few of them at high school, and they certainly existed at both the University of Toronto and the University of (horrors!) Alberta, both of which schools I attended. In other words, their existence in schools is nothing new. And most students pay them no attention at all. Hell, the guy handing out Gideon Bibles gets more attention than they do.

And the leader of the Liberal party for 10 years was a black face wearing racist. Which I suspect, many of the people in this very thread continued to voted for after they found this information out. So, what’s your point?

Just like most of the other scaremongering based on misinformation, the leader of the APP is Jonathan Baynes Jonathan Baynes - Alberta Prosperity Project

The proponent of the petition is Mitch Sylvestre.

Jeffrey Rath is a lawyer. A lawyer who represented Indigenous people in the Supreme Court of Canada protecting their constitutional rights. Something PM Blackface didn’t do. What did he do? Violated people’s constitutional rights.

Jeffrey Rath has on many occasions said that he is a proponent of immigration like Canada used to have. So, if he isn’t a fan of the types of people the Liberals have let in over the past 10 years, he isn’t alone.

Those First Nations people represented in your link openly hate Rath, are VEHEMENTLY against this separatist MAGA movement, and have even successfully sued him in 2025.

First Nations chiefs laugh at the idea they’d be better off in an independent Alberta - Indigenous leaders call out Jeffrey Rath, one of the leaders of the separatism movement

The mistrust by First Nations of Rath goes beyond the political. It’s personal. In 2025, the Mikisew Cree Nation won a lawsuit against Rath, erasing` the lawyer’s claim for contingency fees. Tallcree First Nation and Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation also sued Rath.

Well, a disagreement about billing. Heaven forbid!

Its the clear obfuscation of the truth and story behind the narrative you provided.

You try to imply that Rath is someone who holds the respect and support of First Nations when it is clear and easily verifiable that he doesn’t. He is denounced by them. Which is the diametric antithesis of what you tried to display.

You now brush it off as “a disagreement about billing”, but you (in most likelihood) made this up (regrets, too strong). Do you know why these groups hate Rath? Why they successfully sued him? What the intricacies of this case is? If you do, then I’ll read it.

But it still doesn’t address the larger issue that you dismiss the First Nations group in your own narrative when it proves to be flat out against Rath’s character.

You know, it is said just as much in the article.

But the relationships soured over how Rath would be paid for his work.

I’ll accept that this 2025 lawsuit is a disagreement about a bill (unless I’m somehow shown otherwise). A narrow argument within my wider point on how the First Nations group is wholly against Rath and the Alberta Separatist movement for the below quoted reasons. Worth it to listen to these people and just take their views as presented.

Key to the current statements of claim by the First Nations against the province is that Alberta has no jurisdiction to sanction an independence vote. They say the lands of Treaty 6, 7 and 8 came out of 19th-century legal deals made with the Crown and take precedence over any provincial claims to territory. They said the treaties were signed when Alberta had yet to become a province, so the legislature has no power over them. If the First Nations want to remain in Canada, they say no other provincial power can override them.

“What we’re seeing here in Alberta is disregard to our treaties. There’s not an understanding here of how Alberta became a province, and how a treaty had to happen before Alberta could become a province.”

Oil and gas resources belong to the First Nations people “and we signed a treaty to share it with you. We didn’t sign a treaty for separation,” added Allan Adam, chief of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation.

Well they have an opinion as much as anyone else. And a vote just like anyone else.

“Argle bargle, Trudeau was a racist too”

This is not a strong rebuttal to my post. In fact, it is a laughably transparent attempt. I know it, you know it and everyone reading this knows it.

“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win,”

“But the fact that some geniuses were laughed at does not imply that all who are laughed at are geniuses. They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown.”

― Carl Sagan

I guess TFG decided we weren’t already doing enough to antagonize our allies.

And treaties that predate the formation of Alberta as a province, not like anyone else.

Ceded and paid for, then transferred to Alberta. What part of ‘cede’ do you not understand? I suggest Google for assistance.
