Story.

“Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek appeared Wednesday at the National Geographic World Championship on crutches, having torn his Achilles tendon earlier that morning when he chased after a burglar who broke into his room and tried to steal cash and other items from him. (The suspect, a 56-year-old woman, was arrested and charged with felony burglary and possession of stolen property.)

I saw the report on the news last night, and the hotel and the police went out of their way not to say who it was who ran after the burglar - though Trebek talked about it during his speech. Now, there was someone else in the room, presumably female, since jewelry and a purse were taken. Is there a Mrs. Trebek? And still unknown is how some random person got into the room at 2:30 am.

I’m wondering how she got into the room. Apparently this was at a downtown Marriot hotel, and in my experience decent hotels have fairly sturdy doors with good locks. (I don’t even think you can deliberately leave the door unlocked.)

Whoa. That’s crazy–I just saw Alex Trebek (sans cast) at the Googleplex yesterday while on a tour of the campus.

He’s got my sympathy. I tore my achilles tendon a few years ago, and you have no idea how much it hurts to walk. It took 18 months to heal, without surgery, and being extremely careful on stairs.
