Our family curls up in bed on Sunday nights and watches Alias.
Well, son runs in and body slams us during SpyMom’s explanation to SpyDad (re: Faye Dunaway) near the end. So we missed the rationale for why Sloane is “free” at the end, and how he can be delivering that line to That Person in the beach shack at the end…
Sloane goes to see some free-lance Marshall-like hacker guy. The hacker dude gives him a device that Sloane commisioned that cancels out the bug that was embedded in his head by the Alliance, in exchange for $10 mil. Of course Sloane shoots him rather than give him the money. So that’s why he was free.
Another excellent episode.
Will be interesting to see if Sloane is really “free” (and I guess, out of the series), or if there will be another snag that pulls him back (maybe this time for the CIA as well.)
To add to SmackFu’s post, the implant in Sloan’s neck was a direct link to the Alliance - it recorded every conversation he had, his vital statistics (heart rate, etc.), and global positioning coordinates. The device he received not just cancelled out the bug, but transmitted alternative information (background noise, the occassional conversation, etc.) to fool the Alliance so they didn’t know where he was.
The end result is that he can now visit his wife (who the Alliance thinks Sloan killed because she knew Too Much) in the Phillipines without them knowing.
Yes, a damn good episode, that was. I think it’s a nice change when the other agents are shown doing field work. Like, Jack’s escape in the beginning, as well as Vaughn taking down the two captors. Now, that was totally unexpected.
Oh, and DMark, the ABC site for Alias lists the next episode airing on January 19, which is in a week. All the more better.
Jack and Irena were talking about the resolution of the case and one of them said something about how Sloane hand-picked Kane to lead the investigation, and how she was the one person who could be easily (I think they said) framed (or maybe compromised or blackmailed) and what an extraordinary coincidence it was that she was selected.
And I expect points for being the first out of the box to peg Emily as being involved in her own “kidnapping.” Thankyew. Thankyew very much.
