Alias 11/23/03 - SPOILERS

Sydney gets busted out of federal custody and flies off for parts unknown with her rescuers.

Meh. Overall not a very exciting ep. Fairly single-plot focused, no real advancement of the underlying stuff. A “get Syd out of the soup” ep and not much more.

Bug pops her killing cherry. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. Did everyone figure out that Syd’s “fellow prisoner” was a plant? NSC scientist guy all but twirled his mustache while delivering his “he thought the First Amendment would protect him” line. All that was missing was the Snively Whiplash cloak and the “Muah-ha-ha-ha-ha!”

Creep factor moment of the ep: Sloane’s sitting in the front seat of the chopper, beaming back at Jack and Sydney. Ew.

Oh, and Marshall? Probably not a good ides to leave your attempt to crack the NSC computer up on your screen when you leave the room with an NSC agent standing there.

I liked Dixon’s moment of quiet dignity when he took the rap for the whole cover-up. Carl Lumbly should be a lot more famous than he is.

Huh? Sloane, the world’s evilest (?) man plots together with 4 CIA agents to break Syd out of a black-money funded NSC prison. The episode ends with 4 of them on the lamb, most likely headed to one of Sloane’s underground lairs. Who can Syd possibly work for now? Can Jack and Vaughn go back to work without being arrested? Where the hell did Jack get all those guns/money?!? Is Sloane going black-op similar to a recovering addict hitting the smack again?

This was the most large scale plot-driven episode of the season!

And NO highlighted letters.
(mostly cause they didn’t travel to other cities)

Brian
keeping track of highlighted letters for some reason

I have to admit, I am wondering where they are all going to go now…every one of them has been “outed” as helping Syd escape. They can’t all just go back to the head office and make nice anymore.

Was this all Sloane’s secret plot to get them all on the run? Joining forces and becomine SD 7?

I miss Lena Olin…when is she coming back as Syd’s mom?

Olin hopes for Alias return

[nitpick]
There was already an SD 7. The Alliance was organized into a series of units SD 1-12. Did we ever find out what “SD” stood for if anything?
[/nitpick]

It’s French–stands for Section Disparue.

Oh, so NOW Lena wants to come back.

A few things LaurAnge and I discussed:

  1. If Jack has that much cash, why bother working?

  2. The fat guy was gonna die as soon as we saw him. We didn’t peg him as NSC, though.

  3. Bug’s report may or may not have been the whitewash Lindsay wanted.

  4. Marshall is cracking NSC security with an XBOX?!

Next week’s celebrity guest star: David Cronenberg. That’s gonna be fun.

Actually that link was from June…right after the season finale. There have been alot of developments in the Lena Olin/Alias saga. The latest news is that she is not coming back despite having all of her demands met. We do not know why she has decided to come back, but J.J. is still holding out hope for next season.

I’m of the opinion that if they are unable to secure her for occasional guest appearances they should recast her part. The overrall arc cannot be completed without Irina Derevko. And I don’t want some slapped together episode that wraps EVERYTHING concerning her character up neatly. I want her to wander in and out of Sydney’s life for the remainder of the show…something I’m not sure is possible with Lena Olin seeing that she may be difficult to secure reliably.

Based on how quickly Jack got out of prison for dealing with his ex, I’d wager that all the criminal events of this episode are dealt with in the first five minutes of the next ep, and everything will be back to normal.

Yes, including the murder of an NSC operative performing his duty.

I saw the whole prison switcheroo within seconds. Him giving her the blanked confirmed it. How come Syd didn’t see the possibility? At least she lied about the coords.

By the by, I will mention that my “Sloane constantly drinking water is a world conspiracy” conspiracy was shot to hell in this episode - I didn’t see him drink so much as a drop.

Of course, the one episode he’s not seen drinking water he gets SHOT IN THE CHEST!!!

I’d venture to say that the work he does is really that satisfying and rewarding. I mean, it must feel pretty exhilerating knowing that you were responsible for stopping a terrorist plot to kill hundreds of people.

As for everyone going back to work without a hitch, I’m sure that Vaughn’s wife will have some kind of blackmail thing going on with the NSC head guy (forget his name) citing that Sydney was unjustly incarcerated.

Jack seems to do less of that lately, and more of the illicit killing.

Well, that’s the thing – ever since Sydney became involved in the spy game, Jack feels he needs to keep his hand in to protect her. And SYdney is enough of an idealist that she’s not going to give up the life to let her daddy support her with his illegally-garnered wealth.
