I don’t think Syd’s really been gone all that time. I think this has something to do with the Rambaldi device Sloane built. Here’s what I’m expecting:
Crap. Forgot to close my tag. Can a mod fix that?
You are possibly correct brianjedi. The Rimbaldi device is called “The Telling” which is pretty vague, but might mean that the device is an ancient Virtual Reality machine. Someone from Rimbaldi’s time might see such as device as a machine “telling” a story that resembles the world in all respects, hence the name. But then again, 30 years just to put together a VR machine? It’s gonna be a long summer . . .
I have to say this was my first full epsiode of ALIAS.
I have friends that are into the show and since I keep up with pop culture stuff I have a general understanding of the show…
Overall I enjoyed it.
But I have to ask… is Sydney supposed to not be that great at hand to hand combat or is Jennifer Garner just suck ass at it?
That scene with Fakey Francie was hilarious!
I also lost my crap at the “Almost two years” line. I would love if they had the guts to actually make the show take place in 2005…it would just be so fun and ridiculous.
But it’s a hallucination for sure.
The person behind the Francie mask was actually a fellow Project Christmas graduate. Project Christmas was a top secret CIA mission to train youths to be super spies. That is the reason Francie and Sydney were so well matched. Project Christmas, just in case you didn’t know, was the reason Irina was sent to marry and compromise Jack Bristow.
Our family ('member, we’re the weirdos who all get under the covers and watch Alias every Sunday night) kept trying to guess the “surprise ending”:
“Oh, Irina’ll die here.” “No, maybe Vaughan…” “Maybe Sloan recruits Jack.” “No, it’s Jack that dies.” “They can’t have a show without Jack.” “Please, God, don’t let anyhting happen to Marshall.” “Ohmigod, Will’s goin’ down!” “Nooo…” And then just before the end, “Huh?” “Wha?” “Huh?”
– No need now for spoilers, I hope –
So, I missed it. What did happen to Jack? Why did Sloane kidnap him? What was he trying to do to him? Did the CIA rescue him? How’d they find him?
BTW, nice ending. It’ll keep me wondering all summer.
When Sidney was waking up in that alley - asian signs, etc. - I thought that for some weirdness that she was back in Taiwan and the last 2 seasons had been a dream.
But it’s 2 years later??? I love this show - it’s never cliche.
…Really? Because I actually consider the “You’ve been asleep for X years.” To be a cliche.
And now would of course be the time where I should post cites…but damn if I can remember any…well other than Rip Van Winkle.
I think it may be a comic book story convention.
Well, any story element will have to contain a cliche. I don’t think Syd has been asleep for two years, she comes to her senses in the street in China, after all. Has she slept in the street in China for two years? I doubt it. Probably something else has happened. Either the VR thing, or something else that has caused her to
a) lose her memory of what happened those two years, and
b) keep out of touch from Vaughn and Will, at the very least, for that period of time.
Maybe “The Teller” is a device that can be used to “tell” someone exactly what to do, and they will do it without question or memory, sort of a ultra-versatile version of the hypno-stuff that was done to that guy in the mental institution, don’t remember his name.
I meant “The Telling”. Bah.
