ALL CAPS POST ==> all caps post

In the “Just punch lines” thread, I posted a punch line in all caps. (In the joke, it’s supposed to be the voice of God, coming out of the sky.) But the post, consisting only of the text:

DAMMIT, MISSED AGAIN!

got turned into:

dammit, missed again!

(Didn’t have quite the same ring to it. Jehovah just doesn’t come across the same when his voice looks more like e.e. cummings.)

So, we’ve got a mechanism for turning all-caps posts into no-caps posts, do we? Got it. Guess I missed the memo, but I can understand the reason for it.

THERE IS A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM.banana

DAMMlT, MlSSED AGAlN!

FAKE CAPITAL LETTERS? FOR SHAME!fnord

DAMMIT, aMISSED AGAIN!

And an elegant one it is!

I wonder if you can get around it this way?

That would be a “no.”

POST BACKGROUNDS AREN’T WHITE SO F8F8F8 IS EVEN MORE ELEGANT, IMO.See?

No. Still using white, aren’t you?

F8F8F8 is offwhite. FFFFF is white.

**This is text in FFFFFF.

This is text in WHITE.

This is text in F8F8F8.**

I increased the size and bolded the text to help show the difference. At least on my screen, the first two examples are still visible, but the third is not without highlighting the post.

Mine looks the same for all three.

Same here.

It seems different devices (or browsers) get served different style sheets. The F8F8F8 trick works great on all my PC & Wintablet browsers. It’s certainly the trick I use when I need it.

But on Tapatalk on my Android phone Inner Stickler’s FFFFFF test is fully invisible, his WHITE text is dead black () and his F8F8F8 text is a subtle low-density gray barely visible against the whiter (fully white?) background.

IOW, color choice is not a general solution to camouflaging text for all users on all devices.

I can see the first two on my phone if I squint real hard. I can’t see the third. Either way, none of the three really leaps out at me.

Late add:

I also tried opening the thread straight from the website (no app) in Chrome on my Android phone. It worked like my PCs do: F8F8F8 is the background color.

how did Kayaker do it in post #3?

mc

nm, I see lT now

And the font I see for SDMB posts also shows l and I as slightly different: l has a slight rightward tail on the bottom, and is a little narrower on the upright part.
