All Diablo2 Talk here.........

If this goes through this time…

I did one Pit run today. I found the Wizard Spike in the Tamoe Highlands, the Iron Jade Bong and Fleshripper in the Pit level 1. I wish I had a character to use Fleshripper, check out the stats… 50% target defense, crushing blow, open wounds, prevent monster heal, slows target, 290% enhanced damage, very fast attack, and something else. I may have to create a character to use it, or give it to one of you if you want it.

Now I’m having a strange problem connecting to the USEast server (I hope it’s just down, but I’ve never seen it act this way before). I can connect to West, Asia, and Europe although I have no accounts there.

I learned this from Vol: If you switch characters too quickly and too often you get temporarily IP blocked. Give it about 10 minutes then try again.

What’s the weapon speed on Fleshripper? (Iron Jade Bong???)

Fenris

Actually, if you get temp IP-banned and you don’t have a static IP address, there’s a work around.

-In Windows, go to the “Start” menu, select “Run”, then type “CMD” and hit enter.
-In the DOS window that pops up, type “IPCONFIG /RELEASE”
-Unplug the power to your router/DSL gateway thingy for 10 seconds or so and plug it back in
-In the same DOS window, type “IPCONFIG /RENEW”

Try connecting again. This might prove useful someday when you get locked out of a self-muling game as I have…too many times to count.

So there I was downstairs playing on the Game Cube. fizzy tells me she’s going to sleep (which means that I can play online upstairs, which is where the diablo compuer is, without remorse). So I go upstairs and get in-game as fast as I can.

And when I get in-game the screen is shaking. Well, not the monitor, but the picture. No computer trouble, and Baal didn’t just get killed in A5 … this was A1.

I don’t see “Diablo Walks the Earth”. But I know … I just know. Because nothing else has ever triggered this before, so I figure it has to be him.

vol has a TP up to Stony, and I take it just as he does, and then I cast my own TP. This would prove to be invaluable.

I cast shouts on myself. vol is by this time too far away, and so I plan to cast them again for him.

Didn’t happen. I had reverted back to my maces (a Stormlash and a Demon Limb) and I start wailing away on DiabloClone. He’s there in the Stony Field and … whew. He’s fast. His fire damage does … actual damage. His lightning was pathetic, but then I have more than maxed ltg res. I actually got down to less than half life at one point, but because I had him lifetapped almost from the start (Dracul’s Hands have a 10% chance to cast level 5 Lifetap), I didn’t drink a single potion.

So I’m standing there Frenzying like my arms are propeller wings, and vol’s dropping meteors on DC with almost reckless abandon. And his friend assassin is going crazy casting traps and shadow master and things are going remarkably smoothly considering his friend is under level 80 (that matters mostly for to/hit and life).

Friend dies twice. DC was evidently on the asn’s body, so she couldn’t do a lot. But I’m still wailing away and vol is out of range of DC’s fire and lightning attacks. I don’t think he used even one potion; I know I didn’t.

We get DC slivered and I start to wonder about if the Anil charm will be better if vol gets last hit. But while I am doing this I am still hitting him with reckless abandon, and I realize that A) I just wanna get this creature dead and B) having one is better than not. So I keep on hitting and

BAM

he dies. He moans, he writhes, he puts his hands on his head. “How could I have died to these pathetic mortals?” ran through his mind, no doubt. “Nobody can live through my awesome arsenal of attacks” had to co-exist, painfully, with “They killed me … the poison, the fire I thought I had mastered, the cold … all too much.”

And at his feet, or where his feet had been, lays, in gold lettering, “small charm”. I try to grab it, but the assassin, no doubt busily gathering up her dropped potions and corpse, grabs it. I am irked, but if she wants it, there isn’t a lot I can do.

We go back to town and find out why she had died so often; that fire damage, if you don’t have maxed fire resistance (as I did, natch), can be rather less easy to handle. Also helps, I think, to have 3500+ hp and be leeching like a fiend. Plus, her body was underneath DC’ so even without the fire damage (and lightning) it would have been difficult. And we had DC cornered, too … he was against a wall and couldn’t move forward (I wouldn’t let him go anywhere), couldn’t move to either side and couldn’t move back.

The Anil charm, the asn says, was a horrible spawn. 1 11 10 8, or something like that. I don’t know the max spawn, but it’s a far cry from this thing. Still, I say, “I’ll take it if you don’t want it.”

Noble assassin. I don’t recall specifically what she said, but it was something like “I didn’t earn it, so no…” and dropped it. I picked it up eagerly.

W00T! My own Anihilus charm! SCORE! ROCK! Etc. The villagers rejoiced and all was well in the world.

Well crap. I forgot to mention that for half of this fight fizzy stood, annoyed at me, waiting for cuddles. See, “Diablo Clone! DIABLO CLONE!” doesn’t exactly mean as much to her as it does to me. So she was annoyed at me and demanded extra cuddles, but at least I didn’t have to figure out a way to bind my left mouse button down to keep frenzying while I cuddled with her in another room.

I HAVE to get me one of them eventually…

I just got off the game. thinksnow is now in hell. My magic finding was pathetic the rest of the night…

I did finally find some armor I could socket, so I have a 4 ptopaz mf armor now instead of my stupid 3.

I wasn’t IP blocked, I know what thats like (it’s happened enough), I would hit the button to enter b.net and it went though the "connecting, verifying, and so forth in about a 1/4 second and placed me right back where I started. It works now (obviously).

Who_me?, I think your best bet is to get one with your amazon. I desperately needed the leech from lifetap to stay alive against DC, which means that your decrep would probably have killed me. I’m very glad that vol’s merc wasn’t there, else I probably would have died several times.

OTOH, if you have +all skills, rather than +summoning or +skellys, you might try investing points, singularly, into bone spirit and bone spear. I don’t know if the synergies are worth pumping more than the actual bone spirit, but it would do magic damage, against which I think DC has no resistance. I think that any future points I get through leveling are going into berserk purely because almost nothing has resistance to magic dmg (Achmel and a few others notwithstanding, of course).

vol and anyone else who has a good bit of gear they’re not using and which isn’t exactly spectacular, I think I am going to try to get crap runes (amn and below) for mine. I have a swordguard, which is not exactly in high demand, as well as a riphook, which is also not exactly in high demand. If nobody wants those, I’m gonna try and trade 'em off.

So yeah. Rather than posting angrily about one of the cats, who rebooted my pc just as I was muling (goodbye, third flamebellow and second jalal’s, along with some crap runes), I’ll just let you, vol, know that I picked up a 33 res vipermagi. Upgraded, that should help with tanking. Also picked up dark adherent and some other stuff, including a visceratuant and frosties.

Punha, well I could just cast Lifetap myself if I’m using the necro and the skellies would just beat on him for a bit if you are there until you kill him. If Fenris was there with his Pally, the sanctuary aura really would help my skellies stay alive. When Fen got his Anihilus charm, times when any other aura was active, DiabloClone wiped the crap out of them.

I’m not going to worry about DC until I see him next.

And a great many thanks (tanks?) to Fenris and Who_me? for the mighty assist last night.

My two favorite lines of the evening:
“DON’T! Trust me, you do NOT want to go through that tp…!”

“Heh, Hell is easy, I don’t know what they fuss is about! :)”

OKay, three lines:
“Hey, weren’t you lvl44 when I first saw you tonight?”
(yes, and I was lvl50 a very, very short while later thanks to the Dopers mentioned above)

A girlfriend, you mean? I hear that Hell Nihlathak can drop them in 1.10.

(Incidentally, do we need a new thread? This one seems to take forever to load now.)

Ok, So I have three characters in Hell now…

Obviously it’s time to start a new character. I think I’ll be a tank this time and run up a bear druid. Any tips or tricks on this character? I haven’t had one since the LoD came out. I do like to roar at my computer and whatnot when I’m swating minions out of the way of my giant bear!

Nyah!! I’ve got 5…

The fifth is not actually a viable character seeing how he was rushed through acts 3, 4, and 5 of NM and was a mule character for the past couple of months with mostly equipment that he couldn’t use. I am planning on re-equiping him and to start playing with him again, I’ve always enjoyed having a decent barb when things get difficult.

thinksnow based on more than a little personal experience, two bits of advice:

  1. Stay doing NM runs until you’re level 75 or so. The leveling starts to get slow around 69 (yes yes, haha), but it’s better to be going slow in NM than getting wasted in Hell.

  2. When you do finally kill Baal, make sure there’s another doper online to do it with you (even if that person just waits in town) in case your computer freezes as you kill Baal and you’re unable to get back to the game in time to see the drop.

As for Hell chars … four on the first account, two on the second. So I have both of you beat.

Heh.

There were about 75 of those “Hell Vixen” critters, plus about 40 Serpent Magis on the other side (she was teleporting, looking for the stairs up and the layout made it easy for the critters to follow her). My 77th level sorc, with her tanking gear on almost died! (And it was a NM game on Worldstone level 1!) That was a weird spawn.

Fenris

See? Just proves my point! I should make another!

punha just got another character to hell… I found Naj’s plate, which is just what the doctor ordered. Only 750 defence but +1 to skills and 25% resist all. Now if I could find something that’s really on my list… (cough, cough) Valor or Skullders (cough)

Speaking of weird spawns…

After a week of trying to get an Amazon and a Cold Sorc through the Claw Viper Temple on Hell, she & I had tweaked our strategies. I would use static field (lvl 12), meteor, and firewall (both ~lvl 8, not great, but better than being useless after all the enemies are at 50% life).

We kept getting the same spawn: vipers and cold-immune skeletons, usually with magic-immune Ancients. This was slow going to say the least. I was convinced that vipers and skeletons were the only spawn you could get down there. Then something magical happened.

Zombies!

The green, poison-cloud-leaving, poison-immune kind–and nothing to resurrect them! Now, I hate zombies. But they’re not cold immune, so tonight, I made a warm, cuddly space for them in my heart. Now that we could effectively clear out 1/3 to 1/2 of the enemies in a pack pretty quickly (as our mercs hacked the rest to pieces) we could make decent progress without having to run away from each superunique we saw.

The bottom floor had really been our biggest problem – once that foyer gets clogged with extra-fast, aura-enchanted minions of Fangskin, it’s basically over for a sorc and an Amazon. But tonight? ZOMBIES! Sure, there was something resurrecting them in the middle, by the altar, but Fangskin spawned in the back of the room. A short firefight to clear the foyer, a quick teleport (thanks, Diablo Dopers!), and a town portal later, and I’m huffing and puffing in Lut Gholein, holding that hideously ugly amulet.

So, to my actual question: how do I know what respawns are possible on a map? Is there a list out there of what mixes of critters I can expect? I know some places are always the same, but until I saw those adorable, lovable, cuddly zombies, I thought Claw Viper Level 2 was going to be impossible.
