All in one office machine recommendations

I’m looking for a copier/printer/scanner/fax for the home office. I’m considering the HP 7210 but would be interested in hearing any opinions.

Does anyone have experience with these machines? Should I consider another model or make?

Don’t buy a Dell. I did. Broke right after the warranty ran out.

Is this for a professional home office or a home home office? How much use is each individual part going to be getting? How much downtime can you afford?

If you’re going to be doing a lot of printing, then pay particular attention to the running costs. Indeed, it may be worth getting two printers - a seperate laser printer for ordinary printing, and use the all-in-one inkjet for colour printing.

I really liked my Canon Multipass. It was reliable for about 3-4 years. It has since taken a dump, but the copier still works.

My BIL recently gave me an HP, but I haven’t hooked it up yet because I don’t need it for faxing all that often, so we’re waiting until we use up the ink in the Cannon.

This was for home use primarily.

Second the motion. Have used a Canon Multipass M730 for couple of years for printing, copying, FAXing, PC FAXing and scanning, and they all work very well. No problems, and the manual is actually written in English that one can understand!

Has one black cartridge and 3 color ones.

I have an HP2410xi – it was a gift, and I’m happy with it.

It was really easy to hook up, and it’s easy to operate. I haven’t even had to open the manual. I think it was less than $400 a couple of years ago, so it’s probably even cheaper now.

Small footprint too.

Quartz, it’s realy for home use. It won’t see much action but it’s more of a “nice to have” kind of thing for my wife.

Thanks for all the input!

We have an HP Office Jet K80 (I think).

For those offended by cursing. . .

PIECE OF MOTHERFUCKING SHIT!!!

I FUCKING HATE THAT THING, HATE THE FUCKING TECH SUPPORT AND NOW FUCKING HATE HP SO MUCH THAT I’LL NEVER BUY ANOTHER PRODUCT FROM THEM.[/spoiler]

We’ve had that thing for a couple years. It will not friggin work right. It answers when we have a regular phone call. Right in the middle of the phone call. . .EEEE-YA!!! EEEE-YA!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

So, I go through the manual and make a change. Call home phone on cell phone. No fax noise. A day goes by. . .right in the middle of a call, fax machine goes off.

Call tech support.

*Oh, you should be able to correct that by holding down the #, the power button and the number 6. *

BZZZZZZZZT! Still happening.

*Oh, you should be able to correct that by setting the number of rings to ‘4’. *

BZZZZZZT! Still happening.

*Oh, well, then talk to your phone company about changing to a double ring when you get an incoming fax. *

BZZZZZZZZZZZZT! Still happening.

*Oh, well, then you could get another number over the same line and that will be your dedicated fax line. *

BZZZZZZZZZZZT! Still happening.

But, doesn’t happen every time. Just about 60% of the time. So, every time I make one of these changes, I try to check it out by calling with my cell phone. Seems fine. Couple days goes by. . .and the fax machine is answering again.

We’ve sort of learned to live with it. If we’re expecting an important call, we turn it off.

Invariably, a couple of days go by. . .one of my wife’s accounts calls, “oh, I’ve been trying to fax you an order but there seems to be a problem.” :smack:

Typical routine: I answer the phone. I say, “oh if the fax machine goes off, I’ll call you right back.” But then, it goes off when there’s like 5 seconds left in the conversation, so I just try to shout over it.

Look, maybe HP has got it’s shit together by now. But, it would make me feel so much better if I could convince just one person not to purchase a HP product who was thinking about it.
