All praise for December (December anti-mini-rant)

Although there are anti-rant threads, here is one specifically for December.

Mosquitoes have disappeared. Pollen is gone. The lawn and garden have been put to bed for the winter.

And the local classical radio station is playing wonderful classical Christmas music, interspersed with familiar classical music that they normally don’t play. (No one plays that anymore because everyone is tired of hearing it.)

Now for a cup of hot chocolate.

Friday is my last day of work for the year. All hail December!

Not exactly a December anti-rant, but I love winter and am enjoying all the advantages. Spring water is keeping cool in the garage and doesn’t have to be lugged down to the basement. Cases of Coke that I have no room for in the fridge are keeping cool in the garage. Hot foods that are going to be refrigerated can be pre-cooled in the garage. There are no lawns to mow or bushes to trim; instead, there is rum and eggnog. Shrieking children are mostly indoors or, when they do venture out, at least my windows are closed. There are many others that I’m sure I’m forgetting, plus Christmas – though not as magical as in years past – is still a wonderful time of year, with bright decorative lighting everywhere.

Watching tv or reading with the Christmas lights on.
No mud for the dogs to track in.
No outside lawn, flower, etc chores.
Cozy, comfy clothes.
The beauty of freshly fallen snow on the trees.
Grandkids hockey games.
As much as I love summer, sun, warmth, and the outdoors, it’s nice not to feel like I have to be outside because I don’t want to miss out on nice weather. I can stay in and watch tv without feeling guilty.

Anti-rant threads? Wow, I can get behind that (what an odd expression that is, when you think about it, ha-ha). Seriously, there’s way too much hate online. I don’t even bother reading threads or posts in which people are just venting.

Coziness: As long as I’m wearing enough layers not to shiver, I love cold weather! Warm weather and rainy spells are nice, too, but I tire of them more quickly. The down comforters (duvets) on my bed and sofa are a major source of pleasure every time I take a nap after lunch, watch TV in the evening and hit the sack at night. Every time.

Eating: There are a few (cold) dishes that I’d rather eat during the summer, but there are far more that are just out of the question in hot weather. So, I’m having a great time making different kinds of high-calorie stews, enjoying hot tea, etc. And foregoing ice cubes means more room in the freezer for other stuff!

Outdoor exercise is another thing that works better for me this time of year. I burn easily and don’t like wearing sunscreen, so the weaker sunlight is a good thing for me.

One more I just thought of: Many of the “big name” newscasters, weather reporters, etc. go on vacation and other people get a chance to take over their spots. We get to see fresh faces.

(Also happens for other holidays…)
