I respectfully beg to differ. The Survivor spoiler sites take what they do very seriously and they’ve got a pretty sophisticated network of spies, leaks and analysts scrutinizing every scrap of info they get and every season they pick the winner correctly. They’re also usually right about the finalists, and can even tell you the weekly boot order pretty accurately. Try as I might to avoid spoilers last season, I still got hit in the head with the dark haired girl from the Washington area spoiler. Sure enough, Sandra won.
Most message boards devoted to Survivor clearly differentiate between speculation threads and spoiler threads and will boot you if they suspect your “speculations” are based on spoiler information.
It’s true Mark Burnett & Jeff Probst purposely spread disinformation to throw people off the trail, but it rarely works with the hard-core spoiler sites.
Please don’t speculate based on spoiler info. As Ferrous said, pretty please?
Rudy’s farewell speech was incredibly…spooky. I mean, c’mon, “I’ve got friends so you better hope you don’t cross my path”? Makes me wonder if Rudy is less the honorable hero than the show makes him out to be.
Not that, in the end, I don’t respect him and what he’s done, and of course, it was probably just an angry response at the immediate end of his stay on Survivor, but…geez.
Anyway, a relatively interesting episode. I think it’s still gonna take another two or three weeks to really get rolling. Not gonna say much more 'cos I’m tired of making spoiler tags
Aint-it-cool has a pretty detailed spoiler for the whole game, including who gets voted off in what order and who the two finalists are. It rings authentic and it was right about who would get voted off tonight. If next week goes as the spoiler predicts I think it will pretty well cinch it.
[Warning: Don’t click the link if you don’t want to know. It gives away everything and I have a feeling it’s legit]
Ethan and Colby. Mmm mmm. I hope they both stick around for awhile even though Ethan is portrayed as a lot more snarky than he was in Africa. Wonder if the money’s gone to his head or if he had a temper all along and they edited it out in previous versions. Colby is such an All American boy, right down to his macho image and slight homophobia. Ethan looks a lot like I imagine Jesus would have looked, however I’m strongly attracted to him. I wonder what Freud would say.
All Season 1 of Survivor I thought that Richard would HAVE to be voted off next because he was so obnoxious. But by being obnoxious he protected himself from the vote because everyone wanted someone obnoxious around so they’d look good next to him at the Final 2. So Rich may stay around a lot longer than we can imagine. Plus he has he extra added benefit of being a previous winner. While Jenna wants to vote previous winners off right away, had she a lick of sense, she’d want to keep them around. I mean, who would vote to have a previous winner win twice? So that, in a twisted way, makes Richard a lot safer than say, a Colby or a Rupert who both have the curse of physically strong as well as being well liked.
These were the best pics I could find and they don’t do justice to the similarity I noticed while watching the first episode of All Stars. There were certain shots of Tina’s face that looked EXACTLY like Jerry looks now. (he had a face lift a couple of years ago)
Wow. No special thread for this week’s episode. Maybe someone (other than me :)) will set up somthing next week.
I liked it. I think Rupert should have had a talk with Rudy and just say: “Hey man, you gotta go. The team is dying because of you”. But it worked out OK in the end.
I thought the IC was roll-on-the-floor funny. Note to contestants: You cannot bail the water from a boat if even part of its gunwale is below water!!
Best line of the show: “That fish ain’t too bad, you know” (Rudy)
Worst line of the show: “I have lots of friends” (Rudy)
Second best line of the show:
“The hard part is putting up with the people” (Rudy)
I’ll miss the guy, but he had to go.
If there’s one thing I absolutely cannot stand in a Survivor cast member is smugness. I want Hatch out very badly. He’s starting to rank up there with ass-whipe Jon from the last show in terms of irritation factor.
I don’t know why, but I’m rooting for Richard all the way. I think it’d be great if he could win again, it’d really shut up all those “oh it’s a totally different game now Richard sucks I could beat him” Survivors. He makes me laugh.
My wife told me he was on TV this morning walking around naked with Donald Trump, I bet it was funny, too bad I missed it.
Rudy handles himself with class until he gets booted then he gets pointlessly angry. So much for going out with class- I guess being in an alliance with Rupert rubbed off on him. Rudy deserved the boot, quit whining.
Hard to tell about much of the other tribes as team screw-up seems to be dominating.
Rob’s call on Alicia was dead on. He seems much less grating.
Once again I was stunned by the lack of knowledge that these people had with basic survival equipment. The next step up from a magnesium/flint firestarter is a freaking bic lighter! It’s not rocket science for pete’s sake.
Scrape off some magnesium into a little pile, put some very fine wood shavings around the pile while leaving a hole for the sparks to get in to. Point the flint at the pile (about 1 inch away holding the flint at about a 45 degree angle), and with a smooth but firm motion you scrape the flint with your knife. It’s very easy to direct the sparks this way, and you should get a fire going in no time.
What you don’t do is whack the flint with a machete and watch the sparks fly in a 1 foot radius. I’m sure they were taking huge freaking chunks out of the flint, and really reduced the lifespan of their firestarter.
Actually, the seriously hardcore spoiler sites have had that list for a while now; Aint-it-cool is just pirating the list from the Survivor Sucks Spoilers forums. The person who posted it claims to have a major beef with Mark Burnett, and is posting the list to ruin Burnett’s show.
Right now, debate over its legitamacy is active. A lot of folks wonder why, if the anonymous tipster is really interested in ruining the show’s ratings, he would release his info only to a board with relatively few visitors, rather than to a larger media outlet. I think there’s a definitely possibility that list is a foiler - a deliberate plant by Burnett. I further think that if it is, in fact, a foiler, it will remain accurate for several more episodes… certainly, what goes down next week is reasonably common knowledge if you follow the news. If the list hasn’t gone off the rails by episode 6 or so, though, then I’ll be convinced.
And say that the guy (or gal) who posted the list in the first place better hope no one ever finds him out, or he/she’ll be sending 60% of his paycheck to Mark Burnett’s office for the rest of his/her working life.
I find it amazing that after all these years of Survivor, Richard Hatch is still the only one who really understands the game. He showed it yet again last night when he was amused by the celebrating over the acquisition of fire and a key to get into a box of rice. I am not sure I completely understand his strategy this time through, but by every indication he remains the best player out there.
He is more emotionally centered than any other contestant. Most contestants will make bad strategic decisions because of a transitory affection for someone else on the island. Richard understands that this is a game show with people who are not as important to him as his own family. I am amazed that no one else seems to fully recognize that. I can’t see him winning because of the handicap of being a former winner, but I wouldn’t count him out.
After some thought, I believe that Rudy’s parting comments might have been meant as a joke. His deadpan monotone delivery makes it hard to tell. Did anyone see any interviews with him today? I didn’t, but I assume they are still doing it on the CBS morning junk show.
Richard got lucky in the first show in that most of the other contestants didn’t get it. He most certainly did not invent the winning strategy. Most of us watching it the first time around understood from the beginning how to play. He played a good game the first time around. But he won’t cut it this time.
As for the celebrating, it’s not mutually exclusive with a good scheming strategy. Richard is an ass and I’m confident he’ll get booted early.
Rob Cesterino is, I think, one of the best if not the best player yet. And he never ever gets overly smug. He’s smart enough to know that it’s impossible to know exactly what the other players might be planning.
What’s wrong with celebrating when they get fire and a key to a box that contains rice? They need fire. They have to boil their water and cook any fish they catch. They need fire for heat. Normal people say, “Yay, we have fire!” and celebrate a little, in that situation. It had been 4 days - they needed the fire to be able to drink their water.
I thought he was being a little too smug last night, almost as if he’s trying to be “too cool for school” or something, especially with his earlier comments that he could make a fire. Well, why didn’t he make a fire? Why be an ass like that?
Speculation: I bet if one of the teams already had their own fire, the reward last night would not have included that option of the flint and water bowl and clue to the key for everyone, it would have just been the blankets.
I think since NO ONE had fire yet, TPTB were ready with a little tweaking of the reward.
