I really like “Lisa’s Wedding.” It’s been forever since I’ve seen it, so I can’t quote it, but that episode was fantastic. Both bizarre and touching. Also, there’s a renfaire.
aaah… Whacking Day “avert your eyes children, he may take on other forms!”, Marge in Chains “I’m sorry Mr Simpson, but we’re putting that bitch on ice” (consectuive greatest episodes!) The **James Bond ** one & The Cartridge Family!
mm
I’ll have to second “Homer’s Enemy” because it wasn’t just funny, it was dark.
Preacher: “Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to bury Frank Grimes, or “Grimey” as he preferred to be called.”
After the silo explosion, he spent several long years teaching himself to speak and feel pain again.
Marge: I don’t think we should disturb your father right now, he’s working on a very complex and important project."
Homer (from basement): “Marge, do we have any of those macaroni noodles you can dye all different colors?”
Frank Grimes: “Look at Simpson! He entered a contest for second graders!”
Lenny: “Yeah, and he kicked their asses.”
so much goodness…
:smack: That’s also a really good episode, though. Anything with Burns is great.
I think the best line from the Frank Grimes episode is “I’m peeing on the seat, give me a raise!” I can’t wait until I can use that at work.
I’m going to have to second the episode where Marge becomes a compulsive gambler. Just so many great lines from Homer and Mr. Burns.
My favorite has always been Rosebud, followed by Cape Feare and Burn’s Heir.
“Have the Rolling Stones killed…”
“I’ve arranged to have the entire population of Australia spell our your name in lights. If you can just barely turn your head…”
“Bah! No Time!”
“LOBO! Bring back Sheriff LOBO!”
Homer’s Phobia*, with John Waters as the guest star.
Is that the episode that has the followig exchange?
Homer: I Hate Springfield U <i>SO MUCH*…
Lisa: Dad, you WENT to Springfield U. You hate Springfield A &M…
Homer: …SO MUCH
“Homer’s Enemy” did inspire one of my all time favorite Simpsons threads
Superdude, the line you quoted is from Faith Off, the episode in which Bart becomes a faith healer. However, Homer Goes to College did introduce the Springfield U.-Springfield A&M rivalry, and featured the kidnapping of the beloved mascot of Springfield A&M, Sir Oinksalot (“Here he is handing an honorary degree to Richard Nixon…and here he is wallowing in his own filth.”)
As a fan of animation, I’ve always enjoyed the Itchy & Scratchy-based episodes, as they poke fun at various aspects of the animation industry (and give the producers a chance to poke fun at what they think is wrong with it). Of the four episodes that revolve around them, my all-time favorite is The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show. (It’s also the source of one of my favorite SDMB usernames, Gangster Octopus.)
“Let me get this straight…you want a totally realistic, down-to-earth show that’s totally off the wall and filled with magical robots?”
Newspaper headline: “FUNNY DOG TO MAKE LIFE WORTHWHILE”
“We’re talking the original dog from hell.”
“You mean Cerberus?”
“Whoa, a talking dog. What were you smoking when you came up with that one?”
“We were eating rotisserie chicken. Just read the line.”
“Ruff, ruff. I am Poochie the rockin’ dog.”
“You’re perfect! You’re even better than perfect! Next to you, perfection is crap!”
“Next.”
“Ruff, ruff- I’m Poochie the rockin’ dog! Hello, I’m Troy McClure. You may remember me from such cartoons as Christmas Ape and Christmas Ape Goes to Summer Camp.”
“You’re even better than this guy!”
“How did you get so good?”
“Just practice, I guess. I started out doing Road Runner. Meep!”
“You mean meep meep?”
“No. They only paid me to say it once, then they doubled up on the soundtrack. Cheap bastards.”
“Is this going on the air live?”
“Very few cartoons are broadcast live, Homer. It’s a terrible strain on the animators’ wrists.”
“Hey, kids, always recycle…TO THE EXTREME!”
“I must say, Homer, that was the best episode of Impy & Chimpy I’ve ever seen.”
“I have some suggestions to make Poochie a better character. One- Poochie should be louder, funnier, and have access to a time machine. Two- whenever Poochie is not on screen, all other characters should be asking ‘Where’s Poochie?’”
“Hey look, it’s our new friend Poochie. He looks like he has something to say. Do you?”
“Yes, I certainly do. [Roger Myers, Jr.'s voice dubbed in] I have to go now. My planet needs me.”
[Poochie cel crappily lifted off screen]
NOTE: POOCHIE DIED ON THE WAY TO HIS HOME PLANET
I’m sorry but you are all mistaken. The ep where Lisa becomes a vegetarian is just non-stop laughter from beginning to end. Homer rules that episode.
So many great lines
“Sure Lisa, some wonderful magical animal”
“Will you be writing that check now Mr. Burns?”
“You don’t win friends with salad!”
“Go back to Russia!”
Awww, shucks! kicks dirt
I lov so many of the episodes mentioned already, but one that has not been mentioned that i Love is Homer and Apu where APu goes to live with the Simpsons after Homer gets him fired.
It has the wonderful song, “Who Needs the Kwik-E-Mart?”
Homer pointedly telling Apu that “Karma can only be portioned by the Cosmos!” Slamming the doo on Apu who reflects, “He’s got me there.”
Homer declaring, 'It’s true, it’s tue! We’re so lame!"
The sign, “master know all, except combination to safe.”
My favorite guest appearance of all time, James Woods.
Woods: But as for me, I’m off to battle aliens on a faraway planet.
Marge: That sounds like a good movie.
Woods: Yes…yes, a…a movie, yes.
Homer complaining that the original convenience store is not very convenient.
Like August West,
I have to go with the one where Lisa becomes a vegetarian…I love the “independant thought alarm”!
It’s rich in bunly goodness!
A close second is The Springfield Files. I love the scene where Grandpa is trying to get his teeth away from the tortoise.
“How is it the same part if my character’s now a jittery Eskimo firefighter?”
“I always do research for my film roles. For Chaplin- which I had a bit part in- I actually traveled through time back to the 1930s and…I’ve said too much.”
The part where Homer goes looking for Lisa and yells her name into a baby carriage cracks me up every time.
The episode where the town gets a new area code and then Homer becomes mayor:
Bart and Lisa are looking at the badger in the doghouse. Homer comes out and sits down:
Homer: TV Broken?
Lisa: No theres a badger in there
Homer: Badger my ass its probably Milhouse, Milhouse!
Homer sticks his head in and gets mauled.
Homer: Bart, do you have any dynamite in your room?
Bart: Tons!
Phone Company Lady: We understand that you are upset, especially those of you with dynamite strapped to you.
Cut to Homer nodding.
Homer: I accuse the Phone Company of making that movie on purpose!
Homer tries to detonate the dynamite and it doesn’t go off.
Homer: Way to go Bart!
Bart: It worked on the test corpse!
Lisa: If you ask me
Homer: Stop right there
Kent Brockman: Thanks to New Springfield we’ll all be taking golden showers tonight
Principal Skinner: Oh yeah? Well we got a better town bird
Homer: Oh yeah? What is it
Principal Skinner: The Bluebird
Homer: Damnit
Kent Brockman: Studies show that New Springfielders failure is due to their stupidy and laziness.
Homer: AH! How’d they know?
But what really ties the episode together and makes it transcendent is the running gag of Homer trying to make a phone call.
I like the episodes featuring Principal Skinner - Sweet Seymour Skinner’s Baadassss Song (“Up yours, children!”, “Who’s Ned Flanders?”) and The Principal & The Pauper (Skinner as Armin Tamzarian)
That episode actually gave rise to my identity on a different message board:
