…The Niners will beat the Raiders. Niners by 10! At least the Raiders won’t be travelling far to nurse their wounds.
Btw, If the NIners pull this off, Ill change my 8-8 prediction to make the Niners a playoff team!

well, sorta. Last night the Union City Police Activities League with former 49ers battled the Hayward Police Activities League with former Raiders players in the 3rd annual “Challange Bowl” (Heh,heh) Of course they raised over $13,000 for their cause so EVERYONE’s a winner. Final score was (if I remember right…things were a bit loose) UC/Niners 26, Hayward/Raiders 16. I have to admit it was a lot of fun, considering I don’t really like football and didn’t know any of the “famous” players. I did learn that Bubba Paris is very fat, and a good public speaker and a bit of a ham. I was also suprised to see that Union City had such a large police force. I’d always likened the town to Mayberry and hubby and I would joke about “the cop” when we’d see a black and white. If any sort of charities in your area do anything like this I reccommend you try it once. It was fun and the money goes for a good cause.
Hey that sounds kinda fun. I know the As/Warriors do something like this I’ll check it out.
Im disapponted in the lack of Raiders fans coming to defend their team, but I guess I shoulda known that Dopers are too smart to be Raiders fans
Hey, I’m a Niners fan first, but I have always enjoyed Raiders games! This meeting is a no lose situation, 'cause even though I care more about the actual record for the Niners, it’s fun either way (and this season I just don’t see them in the playoffs, but will be glad to be proven wrong!).
Go Niners, Go Raiders, oh shit, I’m confused.
Hey stuffin, how come an Oakland girl is rooting for the Niners?
I’m a guy tradesilicon. I moved to Oakland from MI, when I was a teenager(and yes I still support the Lions)in 1980. I pretty much watched both teams, but I liked the class and style of the Niners more than the rough Raiders image. It’s funny almost everyone else in the family is a Raiders fan, so this’ll be a fun weekend.
/hijack
I must have a really strong feminine side, people keep thinking Im a girl

Go Niners
GO NINERS!!!
A real Niners fan remembers who the quarterback was before Joe What’s-his-name…without having to look it up.
For two years, I photographed 49ers and Raiders games, giving me a chance to get up close and personal with the biggest fans of both teams (like, er, Violator). From this experience, I formulated this incredibly scientific stereotype:
Raiders fans are more likely to be fun to hang with than 49ers fans.
49ers fans are more likely to have a job.
Now wait a minute. The Raiders have a better defense and a better running game. Their quarterback was All-Pro last year, Niners have Garcia – 'nuff said.
I grew up as a Raiders fan not because of where I lived or because they were a dominant team. I liked them because they were nasty, mean, and didn’t play by the wussified rules dictated by the NFL broadcasters. If Bo Jackson had been healthy, they would have destroyed the rest of the AFC.
Allow me to quote George Carlin – “In football, I root for the Oakland Raiders because they hire castoffs, outlaws, malcontents, and fckups, they have lots of penalties, fights, and paybacks, and because Al Davis told the rest of the pig NFL owners to go get fcked. Also, they don’t have a lot of Christians kneeling down to pray after touchdowns. Someday, the Raiders will be strong again, and they will dip the ball in sh*t and shove it down the throats of the wholesome, white, heartland teams that pray together and don’t deliver late hits.”
Actually, I don’t care about the game all that much. The Raiders will win, but I don’t have any money riding on it. I just thought it was time to have the opposing opinion heard.
Garcia, please
Sorry, my goof. (I thought I recalled in another thread that you stated you were female, sorry, I try not to assume things.)
Anyway, Go Niners, Go Raiders! (Boy, am I confused. Good thing this game does not come up too often).
Ha, Garner ran for 200yds the week before last, that’s more than Kaufman has all year! The defense that’s another story, but if you had watched last weeks game, you’ll notice that they’re much improved over the first week.
Nope, not enough said:
Gannons performance this year
101 for 62, 721 yds, 3TDs, 2INTs, rating 84.6
Garcias:
149 for 94, 1122 yds, 11TDs, 4INTS, rating 99.5
Well at least you won’t lose any money, confidence in your team sure But no money.
Sure, Garner ran for 200 yards- against the COWBOYS, who also gave up 200 yards to Duce Staley.
The Cowboys’ defense is pitiful. Don’t make a mediocre back like Carner out to be an All-Pro just because the Cowboys can’t tackle.
On a side note, in the second to the last Monday Night game they played recently, the CLEVELAND BROWNS beat the 49s 23-20.
They also beat the Cowboys 19-14 the last time they played too.
Unfortunately, in the interim my beloved Browns have lost to just about everyone else.
Except the Steelers. HA! ha ha ha haaa!!!
Uh excuse me astorian
But Garner did gain better than 1200 yards last year, compared to Kaufmans 700! and if I recall he was third in rushing that same year. I beleive he’d currently second now.
You can talk about the Eagles not using him all you want, but as a 49er he produced.
Last year? Produced? Does anyone on a 4-12 team really produce?
And when you counter the claim of a good Raider rushing game by pointing out Kaufman’s yardage, keep in mind that Kaufman isn’t the featured back. Tyrone Wheatley is (if there is such a thing in our scheme), and even his yardage is misleading as an indicator of the team’s rushing. Check out the team totals, not just those of a select individual. Kaufman is the change-of-pace rusher in a scheme that is designed to wear down defenses through a collective effort. It isn’t Wheat. It isn’t Nap. It isn’t Gannon’s scrambling and it isn’t anyone else’s short-yardage pounding. It’s all of 'em.
Oh so the fact that our primary QB got taken out didn’t play a roll in that? Hmm…
Our QB scrambles too and I somehow doubt I need to look it up to find out who’s winning that race, but the fact remains if yu look at total offense comparing the NINERS to the Raiders, the Niners come out on top.
Anyhow, Im not just counting on the Niners offense to win it for us, I can count on the Raiders to be their own worst enemy as is there usual Modus Operandi.
GO NINERS
Even Gazoo is against me, I’ll show you, I’ll show you all some day…
Hey, keep me outta this, I just calls 'em like I sees 'em.
Gotta admire your tenacity and loyalty though!
