There are lots of cheap candies that I love – Snickers, M&Ms, Flake bars, Reese’s PB cups, and more – but Almond Joy is the only cheap candy I can think of that tastes like a gourmet confection… the others all taste like cheap candies (but good cheap candies). Are there any others?
I’m sorry but you are wrong. Almond Joys taste like death in a wrapper. Coconut and almonds? You go too far, Hershey’s.
If I had to pick, I would say something like a caramello.
Yeah, I get not everyone likes coconut (or coconut mixed with chocolate or almonds). For me, Almond Joy is sublime.
Not sure if I’ve had a caramello – I’ll have to try it.
[dirty old man] “You want a Walnetto?”[/dom]
If you can find them, Bounty is the ne plus ultra of candy bars (if you like coconut). It’s like Mounds, but light chocolate, and the coconut is more there than Mounds.
I would say that Dove chocolate is probably the cheap candy that gives more expensive brands a run for the money. I like it, but when I go out to buy Halloween candy “for the kids”, my heart belongs to:
Reese’s PB cups (I love these more than premium PB/choc candy, even though I know they taste “cheap”. I love them.)
Snickers
Peanut M&M’s
Almond Joy
Pay Day
In the non candy bar category, I like Kraft caramels, Sweettarts, Lifesaver gummies, and sour gummies.
I am going to try to leave it alone this year, God help me.
I’m more into Butterfinger and Payday myself. Yeah, I know, you get the hard-candy tooth-shell from Butterfingers.
I hate caramel, and Almond Joy is not bad. They’re tasty.
I have a candy dish on my desk and Mon-Thu it’s filled with mints. Fridays are Chocolate Fridays. (I used to have it filled with chocolate every day, but I had two co-workers who would clean me out before 10am. Do you think they offered to pony up? HA!)
However, I do not share my Reese’s Cups. I will hand one out in an extreme chocolate emergency, but those are MINE.
I was reading the wiki entry on corn flakes the other day (don’t ask) and it said that Butterfingers are made with corn flakes mixed with peanut butter. I did not know that.
I’ll see your Almond Joy and raise you a Zero bar.
Meanwhile, Petit Ecoliers aren’t wildly expensive, and they’re even French!
Do they still make Heath Bars? Toffee and chocolate is hard to beat. Also, Almond Roca.
I dont care for Almond Joy, but I do like a occasional Mounds.
Yeah, Mounds is Almond Joy’s slightly classier cousin, though I do like an Almond Joy.
On Halloween my kids get several fun -size Almond Joys every year and nobody likes em but me, so get em all. Yeah!
The Chocolate on the Mounds seems pretty good, actually.
When I was a kid, the local Sears store had a candy counter and my favorite was what they called “coconut haystacks”, which was chocolate-covered coconut.
Heath Bars. Yum. Next time try a SKOR bar. Dee-lightful.
It actually works well with a bit of lime (or a few drops of lime juice), now that you mention it.
Aha! There’s a peanut regularity to my preferences!
Nor did I.
Little Debbie’s Nutty Bars. Buy a whole box of them for less then $2.
