Alone, and lots of vacation time

alas - sold out!! That would have been great!

Check outBackroads Bicycle Tours. They run both bicycle and hiking tours.

I’ve been on several of their trips. You’re in a small group, so there is built-in socializing. The people are typically very friendly and you can visit some of the most beautiful places in the world.

Come down to the (not-so-great) state of Alabama! If you’re interested in doing repair work on a house, I have a whole list of “man things” that need doing, but I have no man to do them (replacing door knobs, painting, yard work, repairing wooden trim on the house, etc). You can stay up as late as you want, sleep in as long as you like, take day trips up to Birmingham or down to the coast, go fishing/hiking in the state wildlife area nearby, watch movies all day on Netflix via the Wii, play Wii games, etc.

I’d let you stay for free, AND feed you while you’re here as long as the items on the list are completed!

I’m not sure I would advise a young, single, heartbroken male to visit Thailand.

I just wanted to second the suggestion to rearrange the stuff in your house. If you wanted to take a work-around-the-house vacation, this is also a great time to paint the walls and clean the carpets.
If you have the space, I also think geting a paying renter is a good idea. Right now when jobs are scarce, there’s people looking to rent a mon-fri room while they contract.

Seconded, fishing in Alaska is AWESOME. September is also a great month for salmon fishing in Washington.

For Labor Day, I’m going camping, shouldn’t cost more than $200 for four days.

I’m taking a weekend trip up to Seattle in two weeks, the flight was 200, the fishing boats were $180 a trip, motels are and car rentals aren’t that expensive either.

I’m not “bow-chicka-wow-wow”-worthy…I’m just middle-aged, pudgy, non-mechanically inclined, spread-too-thin single mom who needs some help around the house! But thanks!

Does your employer require you to take 2 full weeks at once?

I’m not much of a vacationer (no close family, my friends vacation with their families, no spouse, and too worried amount money to go alone) but towards the end of the year when earned vacation time becomes use it or lose it, I tend to take lots 3 and 4 day weekends. I get things done around the house, work on projects - crafts or baking are my thing, maybe do a few day trips to local places I just never think to go to (or don’t want to during busy weekends when there would be lots of kids and families). I get long weekends and lots of short work weeks. Of course come January every work week feels really long.
