Alphas - Anybody watching this?

Good episode–especially the stuff with Gary and Anna. Nice way to introduce us to a key character in the ongoing story arc, and to show us how big the threat is at the end.

Gary doesn’t irritate me – I’ve worked with autistic children, and his portrayal is pretty good. The black guy used to be FBI, and isn’t anymore (I may have missed the reason somewhere) and he’s bitter about being “downgraded” from that to a private citizen. He said something to that effect on the last episode. He feels he’s being made to work with a bunch of amateurs.

Bill Harken (Malik Yoba) is currently on administrative leave from the FBI pending an investigation for something he was involved in (which is not explained). He’s still an FBI agent.

He’s also available to cater any events you may have coming up.

Good episode, but one part that annoyed me was when super sense girl was using her hearing to listen to heartbeats, over a feed. A microphone has limits, and having super hearing doesn’t matter if the microphone doesn’t pick it up. If it did pick it up, couldn’t they just, you know, turn up the volume. Or have Gary just look at the feed? It seems like they’re stretching just to get everyone to use their powers.

Great ep! The two bad guys were a trip. What happened to the big dumb one?

Nina doesn’t seem happy being treated like a team member, and not extra special. I suppose that’s a by-product of her ability.

Hicks is pretty cool, and seems to have gotten over his skepticism about the team thing.

Bill is really insecure about people thinking he’s anything but a real FBI agent.

Gary is funny. I have a feeling he’ll end up saving the day fairly often.

Rachael’s ability is cool, as long as they use it intelligently.

Dr. Rosen’s extra gentle psychiatrist voice is still a little off putting, for some reason. Maybe that’s his secret Alpha power, bugging me with his psychiatrist voice.

He was right next to the truck when it blew up.

Seemed like she wasn’t happy at all about being treated like a babysitter for Gary, with good reason i thought.

It was nice to both have a Gary centric episode and to also have Red Flag be like him.

Also I guess it’s nice to have EVILtm be explainable as autistic thinking.

I did not recognize him til you wrote that!

A fine episode. Put me down in the Pro Gary camp. I like him.

I found Anna a strange and fascinating character and the reveal she was the Mastermind was well done. I also liked that you could see Red Flag’s side.

I am enjoying this show.

So now the Warehouse doesn’t share a common universe with just GD…

Yeah, that’s interesting. I (for the most part) approve- I love shared universes. It’s a bit disconcerting, though, because I can’t imagine Eureka’s quirkiness and humor meshing well with Alpha’s angst. I’m betting they never have a direct crossover between the two extremes- *Warehouse *is kind of a mix of the two.

I guess you guys are answering the question I came in to ask. I’m horrible with names (and tend not to pay too close attention), so I wasn’t sure in Lindsey Wagner was playing the same character.

I wouldn’t have recognized the same character’s name, but she was a doctor, worked for the CDC . . . yeah, shared universe.

Gary cracked me up.

So to be clear, you guys are saying Warehouse 13, Eureka and Alphas all take place in the same fictional universe?

Weird.

My favorite part of the most recent episode is when it occurred to me that Push Girl needed to stop messing around and just make the uncooperative witness answer some questions … and that’s what she does a few seconds later. It’s always frustrating when the writers on a show featuring superpowers forget to have their characters bust them out at sensible times, so it was nice to see this show buck the trend.

Yeah. Several characters have crossed over between Warehouse 13 and Eureka, and now the CDC doctor played by Lindsay Wagner has been on both Warehouse 13 and Alphas.

“Bill, I know my powers are awesome, but I have work to do.”

You know, I have a feeling I’m going to regret saying this, but I’m really starting to dig this show. It’s not necessarily the best show on TV, but it’s a lot of fun. It’s a “baddie of the week” show, but it mixes up the formula enough that it’s not getting any stale.

I’m liking it, too. I actually find Gary entertaining, and I like the chemistry between all of the characters.

I’ve been enjoying it since the first episode, but this week’s speed-up-slow-down-shaky-cam was a little heavy. Hopefully they’ll keep a rein on that.
