I’m not really pitting the thread per se, because I’m not calling for its closing, but I didn’t want to threadshit over there so I figured I’d open up something else to discuss it here.
I haven’t looked at any of the photos in the thread, for a few reasons:

I find it odd all of a sudden people feel the need to post their nude photos on the Dope like it’s an amateur porno site

I don’t want the thread closed. If you feel comfortable putting your dick on the dope, then whatever. I just think it’s fucking weird. I’m all for being allowed to discuss sex more explicitly, since most of us are adults here, but this is just too much. I guess I don’t have any exhibitionist tendencies, because I only want my boyfriend to see me naked. Not a bunch of random people. I also find it kinda creepy because I just know some of the people that are gonna be posting pics are doing it to get off. I’m not that much of a prude, but it was nice to find ONE PLACE on the internet WITHOUT PORN that wasn’t also totally fucking boring. The whole idea just gives me a weird vibe. Like I said, leave the thread open, I don’t care, I just won’t participate or look at the photos, but it seems like something better suited for off-board…like an amateur photo site.
And good luck to all of you that post nudes - hopefully your username isn’t connected to your RL persona, or that wherever you are posting your pics don’t get found by the wrong people. Like your boss. Or kids. Or husband/wife, etc. Also don’t forget our wonderful dope is free now…lots more people checking out those titties you posted. But wait, that probably turns you on more.
I wouldn’t be surprised if several people reply to this thread agreeing with you while also reading the other thread and fapping away. Hypocrisy tends to be a perennially popular option in life.
Shrugs. I can see your point - I certainly wouldn’t want the Dope to become glutted with “OMG1DOP3RTiTTi3S!”* threads. However, I think that our jackbooted overlords (I say it in love, guys) are unlikely to let that happen. So long as that’s so, I don’t think the NSFW pic thread is really any different from our occasional threads on fetishes and so forth. It’s a bit of amusement (and maybe a turn-on) for those who care to read it, and no harm at all to those who don’t.
I don’t see a slippery-slope problem here. (I do, however, see an opportunity for the next poster in this thread to make a joke along the lines of “no, the slippery slopes are in the next thread.”)
Eh, “I don’t want to see any of you naked” is a pretty weak reason, considering how easy it is to not see any of them naked. Plus it kind of reminds me of the shorts in the office argument; people always say I do NOT want to see that! without really explaining why it bothers them. Sounds like a personal problem to me.
Eh, I find the NSFW thread quite funny and interesting. I find it in keeping with the MPSIMS vibe (that is, the SDMB as a community), plus there is naked people to see! I like seeing people nude, and like it or not seeing the people here, whose posts I’ve read and who I know in some way, even if we’ve never met, naked, is interesting.
I don’t know if I’d actually post a nude picture of me, but for now there’s no need to ask the question since I don’t have any. I don’t think people really want to see me naked anyway.
I agree that “I don’t want to see you naked” reason was stupid. I didn’t properly explain it.
You people are people I converse with on a message board. You are not professional pornography models. You are not someone I am sexually or romantically interested in. I don’t know any of you well but since we all post on the same board, there is some connection so it’s not 100% strangerdom. The only people I ever want to see naked are:

And who cares if its a personal problem? I’m not asking for the thread to stop. I just wanted to know if I was the only one who thought the idea was kind of odd. This board has had a few somewhat explicit sexual discussions but now all of a sudden people are posting up their dicks like it’s not a big deal? I think showing off the naked form is a big deal and personally I don’t want the whole internet to see it. I’m not condemning those that do - I wouldn’t have those hot male porn models without! But this reminds me of classmates asking “Hey you wanna see my dick?” “Hey you wanna see my jugs?” And it’s just odd to me.
I am definitely with the OP. When I first heard this being discussed in ABTM, I thought no way would the mods go for it. But I was wrong.
I can understand the appeal of it for some, especially now that the board is free. But this board is not just random usernames to me - these are people that I’ve been listening to for several years and I don’t want to see their asses any more than I want to see my boss’s, or my car repair guy’s.
I vote childish and stupid rather than creepy. I’ll admit to having read the thread, but I haven’t clicked on any links–I don’t have any great desire to see anyone naked. But I really don’t see any reason why people who want to post NSFW pictures of themselves for the SDMB and the world to see should be stopped.
Creepy would be people soliciting naked pictures of particular dopers.
I don’t find it creepy or offensive, it just seems strange here. There are countless websites that only exist as places for people to put nekkid pictures of themselves and associates, but I don’t know any other message boards devoted to fighting ignorance in general.
My theory is relevancy. I’d be willing to wager that if you asked someone whether they would prefer to view an extremely attractive but unknown person versus a moderately attractive but well-known person, they’d go for the latter as often as not. It doesn’t even have to be a celebrity, just somebody they know. I know I’m like this. Pornographic or even simple NSFW pictures don’t interest me unless I have some familiarity with the person, whether they’re a celebrity or someone I know in my personal life. I’d much rather see a mildly attractive Doper naked than Random Model #1869.
Not to say the folks who’ve offered up pictures are mildly attractive. Just saying.
While I’m not skeeved out as much as I think the OP is, I agree with Baldwin in that it is a little odd. It seems to be limited to a little clique of people who don’t mind being exhibitional. . . but it’s just weird.
No, I’m not looking at the pictures, and no I don’t want to. I like to think the substance of this board comes from the intelligence and wit of Dopers’ minds, not the size of their . . . junk, nor the size of their chests.
I applaud the mods for allowing it to go forth in good taste, however, it’s just not my cup of tea. Hell, I don’t even think it’s a beverage. I like the regular photo threads–puts a face to a name. Not weird photos of unclothed, unknown people I converse with on a message board.
See for me, the only person that I actually know that I want to see naked is someone I have feelings for and I see them naked and vise versa when they express feelings back. Otherwise, if I just want to look at naked people, I want to see the hottest naked people possible, and with no awkwardness of “Hey I kinda know you, I’ve seen ya around…we weren’t intimate and we never will be…but I’ve seen your erect penis.” Much rather see really attractive Random Model #1869.
That’s just odd to me. This board can evolve, that’s a good thing, but it just seems so out of place here.

Everyone, in some form or another, is a hypocrite.
There is an exception to EVERYTHING.
And…before anyone points out the fact that number two would basically say there is someone out there who is not a hypocrite, let me say right now that the one exception (a la number 2) is the fact that there IS NO execption for number one.
