So during the server move, we were told we’d lose a few threads and posts. We lost the thread I started last week regarding whether or not we could have a NSFW doper pic thread. Right after I posted my last reply, the old server went offline.
What I wanted to say was that myself and others have said we are willing to host the site for the images. The thread in on the SDMB would contain only a link to the hosting site and people’s comments, thus following the two-click rule.
Someone also said that no one has yet admitted that they would post their image. Well, I would. Who’s with me?
I am self-employed, so there is really no such thing as “NSFW” as far as I’m concerned. I would be happy to view the images. If only there were a demand for NSFW images of me!
With all the arguments against it on the old board, I’d feel a little dubious about bringing this up again.
As for my old arguments: It’s going to be hard to police, and mods will be busy with the new changes, The second someone under 18 posts one we can get in serious trouble. We’re trying to create an atmosphere of intelligent conversation, while these sorts of the threads tend to degenerate into infantile and sophomoric comments quite rapidly. “Me &heart; teh boobies!” and all that stuff.
If the board was still pay-to-post, it wouldn’t be so bad. But we’re newly free. We need to make a good impression. Posting nudie pics is not the way to go.
And, as Fark.com found out, we can lose advertisers quickly if we have this sort of thing.
Well, like I said in the disappeared thread, we have had at least one thread that was all links to playboy bunnies, and another devoted to Vida Guerra’s ass, and as a testament to the board, we never had anyone getting juvenile and “teh boobies!”
I cannot see the thread degenerating into I <3 Boobies. I can see Dopers writing sonnets, quatrains and especially haikus about the pictures. But that’s it.
Given the number of views this thread has, there’s certainly an interest in seeing naked Dopers. So far, we have a lack of Dopers who wish to be seen. However, that means less competition for me. Plus, the fewer naked men there are, the more space there is to praise my nakedness.
Of course it is! There are actually several marriages that resulted from meeting on the SDMB. And have you ever been to a Dopefest? Everyone is all ‘I loved that poem you posted, and the way you debate is great. Can I touch your penis?’ NOT a pick up site? If you have a high IQ, value the scientific method, and have strong feelings on circus peanuts, there is no better pick up site in all the web.
When we were discussing this during Amnesia Weekend, I suggested that the thing could be hosted at some off-site location, and only links to that location could be given on the SDMB. This would solve the two-click problem and alleviate a lot of the concerns that you listed. As you can see from the OP, this was quickly accepted as a good option, and the idea of actually having direct links to the pictures on the board was pretty much abandoned.
So AFAIK, nobody’s actually thinking of posting nudie pics on the SDMB anymore.
Is your post a joke? I find it hard to believe that you don’t understand why some people would want to see naked pictures of other people.
IMHO–If people are willing to do the work of hosting it, I don’t see why it shouldn’t be done. I don’t really care about it one way or the other…but if it was there, I’d totally look!!
