Am I the only person in the world who despises the movie " Finding Nemo"?

Am I the only person in the world who hates threads with the subject line “Am I the only person in the world who hates Popular Thing X?” They’re just a magnet for people to whine and complain.

I think that’s the key. I thought Dori was a funny character and probably my favorite in the movie, but if you don’t like Ellen then the rest of the movie might not make up for that.

It’s kind of like if you hate Larry the Cable Guy (and I know several people who do), then you’re probably not gonna like Cars.

Twenty-two posts, and no one’s agreed with you. Yep, I’d say you must be the only one! Don’t worry, we’ll treat you the just the same as a normal person: with mockery and derision!

Didn’t despise it, but didn’t care for it, either. My ex-g/f loved it; looking at the release date, I’m kind of surprised; I had assumed all along that her love for it was much like her love for The Little Mermaid, Lion King, and other Disney flicks that she grew up watching (and that I’d been too old to really get into), but she would have been 17 when it was released, so it’s not from her childhood.

The Pixar films leave me cold. They have their moments, but I find that I watch them more to see the advances they’ve made in computer animation than for the stories. I love Luxo, Jr., though.

It just proves my theory that more people will always dislike a given something than those who do.

Yeah, but Marlin’s wife Coral was just a fish and Carl’s wife Ellie was a person!

I liked Finding Nemo. Especially the old sea turtle who sounded like a surfer. And yeah, Ellen was great as Dori.

I can understand you might not like the movie, but to actually despise it? That seems a bit of an over-reaction to my mind.

I’m a Finding Nemo fan. I thought it was a great story, well-told, and I was hugely impressed by the technical achievement of depicting an underwater world so well. I’m not an Ellen fan, but I thought she did a great job with Dory.

The principal characters in Pixar movies are all people, they just aren’t always human people. I can think of a lot of live action movies where the characters act less like people than Pixar characters.

I enjoyed it.

But as with all movies that involve anthropomorphic animals, I always find myself encountering some cognitive dissonance due to the obvious unfortunate implications. Of course Disney/Pixar always tries to skirt around that line by making Simba an insectivore and having his dad give the big ‘circle of life’ speech but not actually showing him taking down and tearing apart a giraffe. Likewise in Nemo the death of Nemo’s siblings happens more or less off screen, and they get the shark to go vegetarian.

Ellen annoys me, for the most part, but I loved her performance as Dory.

Larry the Cable Guy, on the other hand, can die in all the fires.

I actually really enjoyed Finding Nemo, and I am generally not a huge fan of Pixar movies. They’re okay, and very well-made, just not to my taste. But I would say that of those I’ve seen (the first Toy Story movie, Monsters, Inc., The Incredibles), Finding Nemo is by far my favorite.

Interesting point, there. I rarely notice who does the voices for animated movies, but if I did, I might judge them more based on actors that I like or dislike, rather than the movie itself.

Having 3 little boys, I’ve probably seen every animated movie that exists about 300 times. I liked Cars, and I was surprised to learn that Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy are two of the voices, because I loathe both of them. Apparently, I don’t recognize a famous voice without a face attached.

There’s a special hell for people who post to a thread just to whine and complain about it.

Now I don’t hate Finding Nemo but did find it supremely uninteresting. Monsters vs. Aliens is my fave of the Pixars.

Psssssssssst. Monsters vs. Aliens isn’t Pixar. It’s Dreamworks.

There was only one part of FN I really enjoyed:

::::MINEMINEMINEMINEMINEMINEMINEMINE!!!:::::

We rented it a while back on Netflix and my little girl was so unimpressed we turned it off. I didn’t care a bit for it either. I think the beginning spoiled the mood, but I loved Up so that isn’t enough. It just never drew any of us in.

Finding Nemo is my favourite Pixar film. I thought it might lose its place at the top after each subsequent movie came out (except for Ratatouille and Cars, which I like but aren’t even close to Nemo) but as time passes I still retain my love for Finding Nemo.

Ah. That explains it then!

The OP hasn’t been back since this morning. Are you ok, chapulin? Are you upset no one else hates Finding Nemo? Well, Ms. Grumpy Gills, you know what you gotta do when life gets you down?
